Hunting and shooting are popular pastimes in many parts of the world, also in virtually every American state where children often grow up around firearms and where the youth is often encouraged from a young age to partake.

This often results in the young ones learning from their fathers and the fathers’ friends about different brands of rifles and shotguns, and why many have a certain preference for specific firearms over others. Krieghoff started as Semper & Krieghoff from where it developed and started introducing more guns and rifles to carry their name forward. Some highlights that mark important stages of the Krieghoff story include their first competition shotgun in 1957, the K-32, and successes recorded by Kenneth Jones in 1966 when he became Trap World Champion with said Krieghoff K-32, and Haldeman being crowned Olympic champion in 1976 – also with the K-32.

An important development took place when, in 1980, the K-80 (yes, after the year 1980) became the successor of the K-32. This is also the year that Krieghoff shotguns are first marketed in the US, by Dieter Krieghoff to be followed by the founding of Krieghoff International in the US. More models are introduced over the next few years, such as the Single Shot Hubertus rifle, the K-20 in 2000 and the women’s equivalent of the K-20 in 2018, named the “Victoria”.

This short timeline gives an idea of how the company has constantly introduced – and improved – its models. Over these years the different Krieghoff offerings have discerned themselves as being the choice for hunters and shooters, often for specific reasons such as, say, great appeal in terms of design, or improved trigger systems, or because they are designed to offer less recoil, or because they are lighter than others, making handling so much easier.

The hunter or shooter that prefers the Krieghoff above all others have impressive choices today, one of which, the K-80 Parcours, for example, enjoys its following. Long being favoured by many as their shotgun of choice, the Parcours is always associated with reliability and easy handling and it represents an important evolvement of the original K-80. It comes in different gauges, i.e., 12, 20 and 28 to allow for personal preference. Barrel lengths are, for example, 28”, 30”, 32” or 34” and are made to suit both the right and left-hander.

The K-80 is often mentioned for the positive feedback it receives from skeet, trap and sporting clay followers, and for having become a popular shotgun at various competitions and get-togethers where leading shotguns are the order of the day. Examples include the Pro Sporter, popular with clay target enthusiasts for its soft recoil and easy handling, with reliability right up there with the best during competition.
