Every state of India has its traditional dresses, jewellery, music, architecture, etc. Assam is one of the seven sisters’ states. The culture of Assam is loving and fascinating. Here, we have curated a list of some famous traditional Assamese jewellery.

1. Dug-Dugi:
Dug-Dugi is one of the traditional ornaments of Assam. It is a jewellery piece that is worn on the neck. Even today the name of the ornament is a mystery. This jewellery piece comes in a heart-shaped pendant necklace. It also has a matching ring and earrings which look adorable. The Dug-Dugi is made from a small circle of colorful stones.

2. Kerumuni:
This ornament is widely worn by the local women of Assam. The design was originated only for earrings but later the pendant necklaces are also incorporated. These jewellery pieces are intricately crafted in gold. They are designed in circle shape, one side wide, the other side narrow, and the center is kept hollow. This design is named 'Keru'. Pearls are studded on the strands of these neckpieces.

Thuriya is the traditional earrings of Assam. It is adorned by aged Assamese women. These earrings are designed in a unique and classic shape. The front side of these earrings is shaped in a flower, the middle part is thin, and the bottom part is wider. To keep earrings stay intact in the ears, these earrings are crafted in such design.

4. Gam-Kharu:
Gam-Kharu is a broad bracelet with clasps made from gold or silver. Previously it was worn by men of Assam but nowadays they are also adorned by Assamese women. These broad bangles are designed with beautiful floral motifs. Women wear Gam-Kharus on some special occasions such as weddings or Bihu.

5. Loka-Paro:
As the name suggests the Loka-Paro, where Paro means pigeon, is designed with identical pigeons. The pigeons are crafted by positioning one after the other. The look of an Assamese bride is incomplete without this beautiful jewellery piece. The earrings are also designed with pigeons. These pigeons are crafted with various gemstones such as Rubies, Rose Quartz, Emeralds, Amethyst, and others.

6. Jonbiri - Dholbiri:
In Assam, the moon is named Jon and the surrounding design is called Biri. These handmade jewellery pieces are adorned by women of Assam on some special occasions. The design of the moon looks eye-catching. It is designed with small gemstones and gold. A variety of designs of the Jonbiri can be found to choose from.

7. Dholbiri/motabiri:
This traditional neckpiece is named Dholbiri as the design it is inspired by the traditional Assamese musical instrument, dhol. These necklaces and earrings are the most popular decorative ornaments among the women of Assam. It is believed that Dholbiri is one of the oldest traditional Assamese jewellery. It is crafted with gold and various gemstones.

8. Gal-Pata:
Gal-Pata is a traditional choker necklace of Assam. Its name suggests, Gal means neck, and Pata means its flat design. These neckpieces are crafted with gold and floral design. Flowers are designed with various precious stones. The latest design of Gal-Pata also has meenakari work done on them.

9. Japi - Pepa:
These are traditional necklaces and earrings of Assam. These neckpieces and earrings are inspired by the traditional hat of Assam. Assamese traditional conical hat is known as Japi, thus this necklace is named from it. The pendant and earrings are made from gold and various colorful stones. The strings of the necklace are studded with pearls and beads.

10. Pepa:
Pepa is also inspired by one of the musical instruments of Assam. Pepa is a hornpipe folk instrument of Assam. It is made from the horn of buffalo. The Pepa is inspired by the design of the hornpipe. The pendant of necklace and earrings are designed in the shape of stones. The string of necklaces is made from gold or pearls.
