First things first let’s first study a bit about FLYING ANTS
Pest control for flying ants:
Ants makes the invasion of Australian homes almost impossible. More irritating thing is that they take flight at certain times of the year. It's quite common to see black waves of ants hanging near the tops of trees during the Australian summer. While it doesn't pose a threat to people, running through these ants can be very annoying for runners.
Facts
Ants are the irritating little pests that appear throughout the place. They can squeeze in very close gaps due to their size.
‘Flying ant day’ is a myth Because so many ants appear in the same place at the same time, the phenomenon is often known as ‘flying ant day’ – but it’s really more of a short flying ant season.
After mating, queens chew off ...
... their wings and crawl around looking for a place to dig a new nest. Look out for their discarded wings on the floor!
Ants or termites flying??
The reports of flying ants rise massively during the months of October and November. People even report them coming to their homes or places of work. Employees think they’re ants and tend to ignore them in almost every case. Termites are, however, more likely to be present. In those months, termites fly in mass and flying ants are often mistaken. It’s quite easy because most people have never seen winged termites. They take their flight in late Spring and early Summer to find their partner. They then descend to the ground to start a new settlement. Their flying pattern is similar to that of ants, but they are more numerous. When the weather conditions are ideal, it is not uncommon for billions of termites to take flight.
Do you need to worry about it?
There is no genuine threat to humans from flying ants. When they swarm, their urge to mate is overwhelming. They will tent themselves to run around a little before they fly or fall off if they land on you. On the other hand, you may get bitten if you stand on or close to a nest, or when you fly. The ant soldiers will defend the flight and attack anything nearby. It can also cause motorcyclists and joggers a nuisance. Riding or jogging by a swarm can be unpleasant, especially when you breathe in.
What's going to happen if they fly in?
If you meet some insects flying inside, the key thing is to identify them properly. A local Sunrise’s Pest Control expert will be able to help you identify. Please keep this in mind if you try to identify them yourself. Ants have 3 segmented parts of the body, and only two termites. In characteristics they may look very similar, but the number of segmented body parts is a sign of their existence. Please contact Sunrise Pest Control if you have any suspicions.
HOW TO GET RID OF FLYING ANTS?
Spray Treatment:
Quite self-explaining. Use a suitable commercial pesticide spray to remove them if you see a swarm of flying ants. You can also build your own mix of one part of liquefied soap and two parts of water, which will be enhanced by a few drops of peppermint oil in a spray bottle.
Suck them out:
Another form of spot treatment is also available. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck the pests in the air, and replace them immediately.
Put Bait and Traps:
To eliminate them it is possible to choose between a variety of insecticide dust, baits and sprays. Baits are one of the best treatment types. Only the ants who return to a nest and infect the entire colony will kill the bait in a strategic location. Whatever method you try, follow the instructions carefully.
