When our pets are not happy and healthy, we have to make sure that they receive the required attention from the vets in our town, or city, or district. It is easy to know when the cat or dog is not well, and even if we do not know what its ailment is, the vet will do.
Therefore every pet owner needs to know how to get hold of the vet or his/her rooms to make sure the animal receives their attention – also in emergencies. But it starts way before the time they are not well: pets should be introduced to the vet when they are babies so they can get their first injections and then, with regular intervals thereafter, follow-up shots to ensure they remain happy and in good health.

This means, further, that it is important to get to know the vets, to find out who the recommended ones in your region are, the ones that come with a great reputation for their knowledge and experience regarding diagnostics, treatments, surgeries, and dispensing of medicines for your animals. This applies everywhere you may be living at any stage whether you are in Berlin, Paris, or Greeley, Colorado for that matter: you need to ...
... get to know who the best vets are so you can make sure your pets are offered the best chance at good health.
This is also important when your pet shows the first signs of not feeling well. There are some signs to be on the lookout for that your pet may indeed be sick or developing an illness. Some signs that should cause concern – and most likely the intervention of the vet – are, for example:
• A sudden change in terms of their eating/drinking pattern – Be aware that if their habit in this regard changes, and the animal starts eating less, or slower than usual, then something may be the matter, such as, for example, a loose or painful tooth, and other issues. When, for example, they drink less than normal, it may lead to dehydration. Whatever the change, keep an eye on your pet and schedule a visit to the vet if this issue does not resolve itself naturally.

• Listlessness – When suddenly a normally happy, the playful pet becomes lethargic and suffers from lower energy levels, they may be unwell. Visit the vet if this goes on for too long.

• Their toilet – Just like toileting habits with humans, pets may experience a change in how regular they are, or they may be prone to sudden diarrhea or being constipated. These could be signs of an unwell pet, especially if you notice a change in the color of stools, or the consistency or a lesser frequency. Sometimes this corrects itself quickly; if not, get the vet’s help.

• Sudden weight gain, or weight loss – Weight loss, whether accompanied by normal eating habits or otherwise, may indicate an underlying problem. The same is true for sudden gain which in itself is never good. Either way, it is advisable to call the vet to find out what has brought on this sudden change in their weight. If it is gain, then the vet may prescribe a good healthy diet which will help the owner to get the animal back to their normal habits.

• Difficult movement - If suddenly your pet has trouble getting up or laying down, or if it starts to limp, or seems stiff and uncomfortable, it may be a sign of an injury or other problem that needs to be addressed.
Of course, there are many other signs and triggers for owners to be aware of. As is the case with small children that can’t tell you what is wrong with them, remember that your pet does not tell you either. But a change in their behavior is a sure indication that you may need to contact the vet. Be mindful of any signs.
