The Commonality Of Dust Allergies And Ways To Treat A Dust-related Cough

What causes dust allergy?
Extremely miniscule bugs called dust mites live inside house dust and eat dead skin particles. They thrive in a humid and warm climate and are largely harmless to humans, but once inhaled, they cause allergies. Allergies are nothing but our body’s reaction to fighting off any foreign substance. These reactions can be eased with the use of cough medicine, since the most common reaction to dust allergy is a dry, persistent cough. Some of the most common symptoms to identify a dust allergy are:
Sneezing and Runny nose: When dust enters your nose and airways our body produces more mucus and tries to expel any foreign particles through the act of sneezing.
Postnasal drip: The excess mucus produced by our body can sometimes drip to the back of your throat. This is one of the main reasons for a cough and can usually be treated using natural remedies for cough.
Redness, itchiness and watery eyes: Although a cough syrup might help you ease the cough, our body releases histamine – a chemical that fights off allergies and causes our blood vessels and capillaries to expand, reddening ...
... the skin, creating an itch and bringing tears to our eyes.
Stuffy nose: As a result of the inflamed blood vessels, our nose feels blocked and may cause some discomfort.
Fighting against your dust allergies
People affected by dust allergies are often affected the most when they’re home. No matter how clean we keep our places, dust accumulates almost instantaneously, triggering allergies. Over reliance on cough medicine is also not a good idea. There are no permanent fixes for allergies, but prevention is the most effective cure. Here are some ways you can prevent an allergic reaction from dust:
Avoid carpets: Carpets are usually spread across the house and attract the most dust. Vacuuming a carpet does not fully clean the dust and can be one of the biggest contributors for your dust allergies. Floor tiles have a slick surface and can be cleaned easily, reducing your exposure to dust, and keeping your cough medicine expenditure in check.
Clean regularly: Best practices when it comes to cleaning is to sweep the house twice a day and wiping the floors once. In case of wooden flooring, use a high-performance vacuum cleaner to keep the floor and crevices free of dust. People who are allergic usually experience the most coughing after cleaning as some lighter dust particles are floating in the air. Wearing a mask while cleaning, using a nasal spray, and drinking some cough syrup may be some ways to help ease the cough.
Maintain your house quality: Water leakage from the pipes in our walls and a humid atmosphere create an optimal environment for the dust mites to live in. Repairing these leaks, using a dehumidifier and using vent fans to remove moisture from the house will help keep the dust mites away.
Dust allergy related symptoms are not severe and usually go away in a week or two. Although natural remedies for cough and cold help you ease these symptoms, consult a professional if they grow severe over time.
