Everything To Know About Wi-fi Calling
Wi-Fi calling facilitates video and voice phone calls through an internet connection on smartphones. It doesn’t require a mobile network to make phone calls. You can make online conversations with anyone and everywhere in the world using Wi-Fi calling.
What is Wi-Fi calling?
Wi-Fi calling is popular in this digital world as people are using smartphones on a larger scale. You might have heard about it from manufacturers or internet service providers. This calling facility allows you to make phone calls globally using the internet. Here is more to know about it.
Through Wi-Fi calling, you can make both outgoing and incoming calls using a wireless internet network on your smartphone. Many mobile service providers provide Wi-Fi calling facilities such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and more. This calling system runs on a small amount of bandwidth, including 1MB for voice calls and 4 to 6 MB for video calls. That means it doesn’t require high-speed internet.
Why is Wi-Fi calling used by People?
The service provider that we have included in the above section also provides a facility ...
... to switch between a cellular network to a Wi-Fi one. That means while using cellular networks, you can switch for a Wi-Fi connection if it is available around you without losing any call data. Switching between networks happens automatically. Network switching occurs for the following reasons.
The network coverage is increased. If a mobile phone has Wi-Fi calling, a call from a cellular network can be switched easily over a Wi-Fi network. It can happen if the carrier signal is low.
If the traffic from the mobile network becomes low, other users can get quality service.
Wi-Fi calling is beneficial for you in reducing mobile service bills because you get limited services on plans. Wi-Fi calls are generally free when you make them within the U.S. and also from international locations to the U.S.
Please note that you may have to pay charges for making calls from the U.S. to other countries. After all, it depends on the guidelines provided by the carrier.
How to use Wi-Fi calling
When you wish to make Wi-Fi calls, there are some platforms like Skype and Zoom come first in mind. These platforms allow internet-based calling as Wi-Fi calling. The thing that differentiates them is that you get Wi-Fi calling as a feature on your mobile device. And Wi-Fi calling doesn’t need more input from your end. Turning on Wi-Fi calling is almost similar on many smartphones, from an iPhone to an Android device.
You can easily enable Wi-Fi calling by accessing cellular settings on an iPhone. In the case of an Android phone, you should access Mobile Network and turn Wi-Fi calling on.
Note that all smartphones don’t share the same settings and features. So, you will get the Wi-Fi calling feature at different locations on different smartphones. But keep in mind that you have to find an option on any smartphone like a cellular network or mobile network. And after that, you have to find Wi-Fi calling to enable or disable. Once you enable Wi-Fi calling, your device will use the available Wi-Fi network near you to make phone calls. When you are out of Wi-Fi range, your cellular carrier will make phone calls.
