Steps involved in the PCB assembly process

Solder Paste Stencilling: It is the fundamental step of PCB assembly. A stencil that is made of a thin sheet of metal is placed on the board initially. The solder paste will be applied over the area where the components are to be placed exactly. The stencil will be removed from the board once the solder paste is applied evenly.

Mounting of components: The mounting of the components can be carried out either manually or mechanically with the influence of the automated system. Automatic component mounting is preferable as it offers the process in a quick, precise, and error-free manner.

Soldering: Soldering is performed to combine the components of PCB. A hot wave solder liquid is allowed to pass through the components to liquefy the solder balls. On cooling at room temperature, it becomes solidified paste. The solder paste is melted when it is subjected to pass through the hot waves and on cooling it sticks with the components.

Inspection: Inspection and quality analysis will be performed to check the efficiency of the device. The various process that involves in the inspection process is visual and manual inspection, automatic optical inspection, and x-ray inspection.

Soon after the completion of the assembly, the PCBs will be re-inspected for functionality. The process will be concluded by performing tests for micro-sectioning, contamination, and solderability.
