Tips In Making Diy Cannabis Topicals
Innovation in the cannabis industry is constantly evolving with new types of products consumers can use for medical and recreational purposes. The innovation is sparking a conversation about the benefits of cannabis for those of all ages, melting away the negative stigma around the plant. One of those innovations is topical cannabis!
If you are interested to know how to make your own DIY cannabis topicals at home, this is the article for you. Society is becoming more aware of the incredible health benefits that come with cannabis usage and the wide interest in cannabis-infused topicals is just one proof.
WHAT ARE CANNABIS-INFUSED TOPICALS?
A topical is a lotion or cream that is infused with cannabis which is used similarly to other body lotions
Cannabis-infused topicals come in different forms such as lotions, balms, and oils that are absorbed through the body. Here at Sativa Bliss, we have cannabis-infused topicals in the form of lotions, creams, and bath bombs.
Due to the nature of consumption, cannabis-infused topicals are considered non-intoxication or without psychoactive ...
... effects. Cannabis topicals are usually made with a CBD or a type of cannabinoid that provides its usual effects of pain relief, relaxation, and more without the usual high feeling. Cannabis topicals with a THC base can’t deliver an intoxicating sensation because it can’t easily penetrate through the bloodstream.
As a result, the use of cannabis topicals is for medical purposes and to provide pain relief to people who aren’t able to consume cannabis the traditional way. Luckily for you, making your own cannabis topical may not be as hard as you initially thought.
CANNABIS-INFUSED TOPICALS: HOW TO MAKE YOUR DIY BALM
The first step that you will need is to make a basic cannabis balm that will be the base for your topical. These are the ingredients that you will use:
• 7-10 grams of ground, dried cannabis
• 1 ½ cups of coconut oil
• 1/3 cup olive oil (optional)
• 1/3 cup beeswax
• 1 baking sheet
• 1 saucepan (or double boiler)
• 1 jar
• 1 cheesecloth
• A few drops of essential oil (your choice)
Step 1. You will need to decarboxylate your cannabis first and you can do this by heating your dried ground cannabis on a baking sheet for about 25 to 30 minutes. Make sure that you preheat your oven first at 240° Fahrenheit or 115° Celsius.
Step 2. Once you have placed your cannabis in the oven you will need to place your coconut and olive oil in the saucepan or double boiler over low heat. Don’t forget to constantly stir. After the cannabis is done in the oven you will have to maintain a low heat and add the cannabis to the oil mixture for another 20 to 25 minutes.
You have to remember to stir the mixture well and consistently. Also, avoid exceeding a low heat temperature because failing to do so can result in burning the essential substance in the cannabis that you will need for your topical.
Step 3. The next step will be to strain the mixture using a cheesecloth into a jar. Let it sit for a few minutes until done by setting it aside and allowing gravity to do its work. At the same time, you will have to use the same saucepan or double boiler and add the beeswax and melt it. After it completely melted slowly add the infused coconut oil combine then while stirring.
Step 4. Once you’ve completely mixed the two you can then add essential oil of your choosing. This step is optional. If you decide to you’ll have to stir the mixture once more.
CANNABIS-INFUSED TOPICALS: HOW TO MAKE YOUR DIY CANNABIS TOPICAL
The process won’t be complete just with your salve. To turn your salve into a cannabis-infused topical in the form of a lotion or cream you will need the following:
• 1 cup aloe vera gel
• 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil
• 2 tablespoons shea butter or cocoa butter
Step 1. Add the following ingredients to your balm and you will be done. If you feel like your cream or lotion is not fluid enough you can increase the amount of oil in your mixture. We suggest vitamin E-rich oil.
Note: This recipe will be reasonably thick which means you cannot store them in a lotion pump. You can store it in the jar where you keep your cannabis flowers or any jar of your choosing. Also, your topical won’t last long but to preserve its longevity you can store it in a cool and dark place.
