Take your time to listen to experts and other cannabis enthusiasts to learn more about certain processes such as decarboxylation and infusion to open your eyes to possible flaws or potential improvements that you can do. You have to remember that there is no one right way to cooking your dream cannabis edibles to reality because experimentation and trial and error are both parts of the process.
Continue reading this article and by the end, we, Sativa Bliss, will share with you the seven most common mistakes to avoid when cooking cannabis edibles.
#1 COMMON MISTAKE: SPENDING TOO MUCH
Besides the quality of the flower ...
... that you will be using knowing how much to use is also important. A common mistake that people do is to buy excessive amounts of flowers for their cannabis edibles when a simpler and better way is to have the proper ratio of oil and ground cannabis to use.
This is because using too much can be wasteful. We suggest maintaining a ratio of 1:1 or one cups of oil to one cup of ground cannabis approximately seven to ten grams. This ratio is perfect because the binding agent of the oil can only be infused into the cannabinoids to a certain extent and using more is unnecessary.
#2 COMMON MISTAKE: NOT ALLOWING THE CANNABIS TO DECARBOXYLATE
Depending on your choice you can either skip this one and stay with your own recipe. But what do we mean by not allowing cannabis to decarboxylate? It’s the process of activating the cannabinoids inside the cannabis to reach the maximum effects of the flowers.
Never put the flowers straight into the slow cooker because the experience of eating raw and cooked cannabis is like day and night. You can decarboxylate your cannabis by putting it into the oven then adding it to your batter or dish soon after.
#3 COMMON MISTAKE: PROPER TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Know how hot and long to heat your cannabis and cannabutter when crafting your own cannabis edibles at home. Because overheating them can remove the essential cannabinoids that you need to have the best experience. We suggest that when cooking your cannabis in the oven to keep it at 245°F (120°C) for thirty (30) to forty (40) minutes. While mixing the grounds every ten minutes. Another option is when steeping your grounded cannabis in oil to maintain a temperature of 160-200°F, low or medium on a slow cooker, and to always have a thermometer handy at all times.
#4 COMMON MISTAKE: TURNING YOUR FLOWERS INTO POWDER
Never pulverize your buds into a food processor or any other grinder to get a powder form because it will surely leave that unpleasant plant-like taste in your mouth. Instead what you can do is to use a hand grinder to get a coarser grind.
#5 COMMON MISTAKE: NOT OR IMPROPERLY STRAINING THE OIL
Use a cheesecloth when straining your oil to separate strain the plant material. But avoid squeezing the cloth because this will also push some oils out of the cloth. What you can do is just let gravity do the work for you.
#6 COMMON MISTAKE: DOSING
Unlike buying edibles from stores, dosing on your homemade cannabis product can be harder especially if you are just starting. To avoid dosing too much or too little you should test the potency of your infused oil before adding them to your dish. You can do this by taking ¼ up to a ½ teaspoon of your oil and add them to your food or drink. Give it time, approximately an hour to set in and move from there on how much you’d want to add.
#7 COMMON MISTAKE: UNEVEN DISTRIBUTION OF OIL POTENCY
Have you ever experience, especially when baking edibles that some part of your brownie or any other homemade cannabis-infused edible that you don’t get the same potency on certain areas of the brownie. This may be because you didn’t stir your batter or dish properly.
After knowing what to avoid or change you now need to know where to get the best quality cannabis flowers or any other cannabis products. You’re in luck because Sativa Bliss offers a wide variety of premium cannabis products from flowers, concentrates, oils, edibles, and more.
