A single pane of glass is usually a communication console that displays data from many different sources in a single, clear view. The single pane of glass is often used to control an LCD or LED screen. The single pane of glass can also be used to display information about a product line. For example, a single pane of glass may display the capabilities of a product line in terms of sales figures. In addition, a single pane of glass can also display the price of a product line. These two display options allow a company to display data in a quick and accurate form that enables the company to make strategic decisions.
However, a single pane of glass security does not have all of the functions of a more advanced single pane of glass system administrator. The single pane of glass system administrator must have access to a host of data in order to make informed decisions. A single display can only display data on one aspect of a system. The single pane of glass, in this instance, is really a display screen or a remote computer display.
With advanced single-pane systems, however, there are integrated monitoring tools that ...
... provide real-time access to performance metrics from within the same single display. The key to a more complex system lies in using operational dashboards to combine visual cues from many different sources and to allow for a central "frame" or "comparison" point to allow for comparisons. This means that although the single-pane glass system administrator is still at the helm of a unified display, the performance metrics can be viewed in real-time order.
So how do you put actionable insight into metrics in a single pane of glass? First, make sure that each of your screens is labeled with appropriate metrics. For example, if you are looking at your e-mail alerts in order to identify spam, label the alert with an appropriate keyword. In the previous example, the keyword "spam" would be appropriate.
You should then create two panes: one for the single pane of glass dashboard and one for the set of metrics in the operational dashboard. One important thing to remember when combining these two panes is to make sure that you have the same size and color for both of them. This is because if you use different sizes, the information in the single pane may not be clearly displayed and could become blurred. Likewise, if you use different colors for the single pane and the set of metrics, the information in the dashboard will become disorganized and hard to see. Use one consistent size and color for both panes.
Using a single pane of glass approach for automation allows you to consolidate different sets of information in a single location. You can do this because you have more clear and accessible information in one place. Plus, it makes it much easier to organize the data. With the information in the single pane of glass dashboard, you can quickly filter and/or examine the data relevant to the requirements you have for your business.
However, using a functional panes approach for automation does have some drawbacks. The main drawback occurs when there are inconsistencies in the behavior of your metrics or the data sources themselves. For example, your metric for conversion rates might vary from one time period to another. If you cannot account for this inconsistent behavior, it can become difficult to determine which conversion rate represents what is actually being measured.
If you want to take advantage of the benefits security operations center best practicesof functional panes for metrics, you should consider using enterprise mobile solutions. There are many tools and analytics available for integrating with these single pane glass systems. However, you should ensure that the metrics that you use are standard, i.e. they are agreed to by the entire network. Also, make sure that the metrics are synchronized across all the devices used in the enterprise.
