Nature based solutions are one of the measures under climate change adaptation. Nature based solutions are actions undertaken locally for climate change adaptation which positively effects humans, biodiversity and ecosystem. Some of these actions include conserving the coral reefs and mangroves along our coastline, enhancing vegetation to reduce land erosions and the associated risks of landslides; developing permeable green belts to help support replenishment of the ground water.

It is normally used as an umbrella terminology to reflect ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction. The nature-based solutions will also be one of the key topics for the United Nations framework convention on climate change meeting in Glasgow this year. There is an opportunity for the governments to link their covid19 recovery-based funds with nature-based solutions for climate change. If we have to reduce the emissions and established the global warming under 1.5 degree Celsius. the nature-based solutions will play a large role. These nature based solutions not only reduce GHG emissions or sequester CO2 they also help in conserving the biodiversity and support our ecosystem. At present several organisations across the globe are working on nature based solutions as main strategy for climate change mitigation.
