The Effects Of Not Wearing Prescription Glasses

The majority of the global population, when counting adults, employs some sort of vision correction product, whether that be eyeglasses, contact lenses, or even surgery. It is estimated that approximately 75% of the adults in the world need some sort of vision correction. This is natural as vision loss is a natural consequence of aging and something that most of us can unfortunately not escape. Although the level of vision loss differs from person to person, it is important to understand that most adults will suffer some vision loss, and regardless of the level of vision loss, it is necessary to correct it with prescription glasses. Many people may have their eyes tested and receive a low-level prescription for reading glasses or glasses to use while driving. Some of these people may feel that they don’t really need the glasses all the time and may not use them as often as they should, but this can be incredibly detrimental.
Glasses have become so commonplace that they are seen as a fashion accessory and many people who don’t need to be wearing prescription lenses are seen wearing fashionable clear glasses merely ...
... for aesthetic reasons. However, on the other end of the scale, you will have people that do have prescription lenses that don’t wear their glasses for any number of reasons. The style of glasses they have may be uncomfortable to wear for extended periods or they may feel that their glasses negatively impact how they are perceived by others. But not wearing your prescription glasses can have very serious short- or long-term effects and that is why it is so important to honor your prescription and wear your glasses as intended.
The first and most common symptoms of not wearing glasses coincide with the symptoms that you need glasses. If you don’t wear glasses and you often get headaches or migraines or suffer from dizziness or fatigue, it may be an indication that you need glasses. On the flip side, if you do have prescription lenses but don’t wear them, you may be subject to again headaches, migraines, dizziness, and fatigue, and this can greatly impact your general quality of life and can negatively impact your day-to-day activities. On a more serious note, prescription lenses help you see better, and if you don’t wear them, particularly if your glasses help you to see at a distance for activities like driving, you may find that you don’t see as clearly without them and that can lead to very serious accidents. If you don’t wear your lenses, you won’t see as well as you should and that can increase the risk of injury for yourself and others. In a vehicle, you are putting yourself and others in danger if you drive without your prescription lenses, and if you need your glasses for everyday activities, you may find that you’ll trip over things, or bump into objects or people without your glasses to help you.
Furthermore, depending on your prescription, not wearing your glasses may be further detrimental to your eyesight. Young people who are nearsighted who fail to wear their prescription lenses will find that their eyes have the tendency to become lazy, which will mean that they will need stronger lenses later on in life. It is important to have your eyes professionally tested and understand your prescription to ensure that you are receiving and wearing the correct lenses for your eyes. If you don’t, you can cause irreversible damage. Although it may not initially seem that way, not wearing prescription lenses can mean the difference between life and death and it can impact your life in an immensely negative way. It is far simpler and smarter to have your eyes tested and to honor your prescription and your vision by wearing the lenses as intended.
