Origami Flower
Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper to make things imitating those in real life like flowers and animals. This is done by folding and creasing paper without cutting or gluing the paper. It is also done by using only 1 sheet of paper. The most popular origami design is the Japanese paper crane. A specific paper, known as origami paper is specifically used in this art but other kinds of paper can be used as long as it can hold crease well. The origami paper weighs less than normal copy paper, often white on one sided and coloured on the next. With origami, the possibilities are countless when it comes to what you can create. Once you learn the skill of folding to design objects, you can progress to more complicated designs. You can also add extras to your creations for example, adding stems to your flowers. Here's how to make a simple lily.
All you need is a square piece of origami paper.
Steps:
1. Place the paper color side down.
2. Fold it in half to form a triangle.
3. Fold it in half again to form a smaller triangle.
4. Open the fold to reveal the bigger triangle with ...
... a crease down the centre.
5. Fold the right pointed edge over to the centre. A piece should hang over the rest of the paper.
6. Do the exact thing with the left side. You should arrive at a triangle facing down with two pointed edges to the side and a tip on the top.
7. Fold the front piece of the tip down so that colour is shown.
8. Crease the point at the bottom upward then reopen.
9. Slightly open the paper where the tip is and crease the tip by pushing it inward and press down.
Your simple tulip is now finished!
How to make a Paper Airplane
This time you will need a rectangular piece of origami paper.
Steps:
1. Fold the paper down the centre in two equal parts the long way.
2. Take the right corner at the top and fold it over to meet the center line.
3. Do the same thing with the left corner. You should now have a triangular top.
4. Using the same edges that you folded in, fold in the right edge again to make a long narrow triangle.
5. Do the same thing with the left edge. You should now have a very pointed triangular top.
6. Fold the whole shape in the centre in two equal parts. This is now the body of the airplane.
7. Fold the right side outwards or downwards. This is the right wing.
8. Do the same thing with the left side which is also the left wing.
Your plane is now finished and ready to fly!
Tip:
Some airplanes fly better by adding a little additional weight to its body. You may do so by adding a paperclip to the airplane.
