Cox communication offers the service of cable internet to over 20 million people and in nearly 19 states in the US. It has a yearly revenue of $12 billion. It is just short of Comcast and Charter Spectrum, two of the US large cable service provider.

It is more concentrated in dense urban areas, so if you are a rural consumer, then the chances of you getting a Cox is very less.

The cities in which Cox Communications services are most prevalent are:

Cleveland, Ohio
Gainesville, Florida
Las Vegas, Nevada
Macon, Georgia
New Orleans, Louisiana
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Omaha, Nebraska
Pensacola, Florida
Phoenix, Arizona
San Diego, California
Santa Barbara, California
Topeka, Kansas
Virginia Beach, Virginia
Wichita, Kansas

Speed: Agood fiber connection will give you upload speed as fast as the download speed, and this ...
... is where the cable internet fails. For Example, Cox, with its fastest plan, will provide you with 940 Mbps of download speed, but when it comes to uploading speed, it reduces to 35 Mbps. Now, this becomes more problematic when you have multiple users in your house making Zoom calls or online gaming. There are other plans also, but they provide a slower upload speed than the discussed above.

Bill: Cox provides you with multiple plans and even offers you a discount if you are willing to sign up for a 12-month plan, but this discount will only apply till the end of one year. Accepting that any service provider generally asks you to take a one-year subscription, but the catch here is that after the end of one year, once the discount stops to apply your bill will blow up the roof. Let’s understand this with a plan of Cox.

Assume you take the 150 Mbps internet plan, so the amount that you will be needed to pay in the first year after applying the discount code will be 60$, but after the end of one year plan, you will have to pay 84$.
Now, if you ask the consumer service to lower the rate, you may not get the desired result, and worse, the salesperson could talk you into buying the faster pack to get the discount. But this faster pack will come at a higher price than your first year, say like 80$ per month, and this cycle will keep on repeating.

Additional fees: you will have to pay an extra 100$ if you wish to get your services installed by a technician, although it is completely optional, and you could also install it yourself by ordering a completely free Easy Connect self-install kit.
An extra 12$ per month will be charged if you want to use its Panoramic Wi-Fi modem/router device.
The other fees you will have to pay are the early termination fees of 120$ for a year if you wish to cancel your internet services under one year contract.

Data caps: every Cox plan comes with a data cap, and if you overpass it, then you will have to pay extra for it. Earlier, the cap was 1 Terabyte per month, but after the pandemic, it was raised to 1.25 Terabytes per month. Cox will waive your first month off limit as a gift.

Once you have exceeded the data limit, you will be charged with additional 10$ for every 50 GB block of data that you use.

Also, there are other plans of Cox that don’t have a data cap, but it has its conditions with it.

User review: The American Customer Satisfaction Index gave Cox 61 out of 100. It was placed below its rivals like Xfinity, Optimum, and Spectrum. It was also below the average rating, which was 65.

So, if your area has fiber internet, you should be better use it as it provides you with better speed and better value. If not, then a cable provider like Cox is your next best option.
