When it comes to planning your next vacation, whether as a couple, a group, or as a family, there are some valuable tips and tricks you can take advantage of, that other frequent travelers have learned along the way. Your holiday should be enjoyable, not stressful, and brimming with hassle and bad moods. Holidays are a time to get away, explore new countries or cities and relax and rejuvenate.

Making use of guidebooks is a great way to explore a new country or city, they are much better than blogs in some ways, offering valuable and detailed information you can use. The problem is that you find you have to read the book cover to cover and they are heavy to drag around with you. Why not only download the chapters you need to make your holiday enjoyable. Keeping them on your phone or tablet, so you have the information that you need on hand without having to carry a heavy guidebook around with you.

Most people get worried when visiting a country that speaks a language other than their own, so they start learning common local phrases before they leave, which is pointless. Within a few hours of being in a new country, ...
... you will learn the basic language, such as hello, thank you, and please.

Don't fall into the trap of exchanging your money at the airport out of desperation. Take the time to get to know the current exchange rates and then take note of which exchange offices are as close to the current rate. You may find that an airport office is right on target or you may have to go to an exchange office closer to your hotel or resort. Some tips include exchanging your money at home before you leave, draw cash from an ATM rather than using an exchange office, or paying with your credit card, which should work internationally, eliminating the need to carry too much cash.

If you find when you are packing your bags that you have to roll your clothes to make them fit, then you need more space or you have to reduce how much you are taking with you. Always make sure you have room in your bag for souvenirs, along with neatly folded clothing.

So many travelers recommend you carry a photocopy of your passport but ensure you always carry your travel insurance information. If you have an accident, the first time they are going to want to know is if you are insured before they take you to the hospital. Having the information on you also ensures that the hospital can contact the insurer if you are too sick to provide the information.

A great tip that is always recommended is to ask locals in the hospitality industry for travel advice, things to do and see. Don't ask any local, they don't see their home town in the eyes of the tourist, which is why if you want local advice, you must ask the right people. If you're outside the hotel and bump into the chef or hotel manager, even the Uber driver, you can ask them for advice.

Ensure you get enough sleep during your holiday to enjoy every waking moment. Why get up early to stand in a queue to view a top sight in a city, when you haven't had enough sleep in the first place? You are not going to enjoy it. Work your days and times based on getting enough sleep. If you know you have to be up early for a tour, ensure you go to bed early, so you can wake up refreshed and make the most of the experience.
