There may be increased take-up of electrical courses in Wembley after a man was left permanently disabled following a high voltage shock.

Chart Design was fined £4,000 and will have to pay court costs of £6,330 for breaching a health and safety regulation, with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspector Kerry Williams claiming "simple" actions could have prevented the accident.

The employee burned his right hand - which he still does not have full use of - and forearm after his fingers came close to components charged with several thousand volts of electricity, which may inspire more engineers to value the expertise gained on electrical courses.

"A man's life has been turned upside down because of entirely preventable and basic safety failings," added Ms Williams.

This week, the HSE highlighted the importance of reporting certain health outcomes to the organisation, such as certain diseases and deaths, citing the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995.
