Hunter's reign of terror in World of Warcraft officially began with the release of the Burning Crusade expansion.
Blizzard made some significant changes to the class in preparation for the TBC Classic. These modifications, which reflected the changes made in the original expansion in 2007, included the addition of new talents, the removal of the dead zone, and a significant buff to pets.

Pets now benefit from ranged attack power, which includes that gained from flasks, elixirs, potions, and racial abilities such as Blood Fury. A total of 22 percent of your attack power is converted to your pet, providing you with an additional boost of damage and propelling you to the top of the meter.

But what are the best pets in TBC, and will your style of play have an impact on your choice of companion? Here are the best pets for leveling, raiding, and arena competition in The Burning Crusade Classic, as well as information on how to find and tame them in the wild.

The balancing act
When you're leveling up from 60 to 70, you have to move quickly. The sooner you reach the maximum level, the sooner you can ...
... begin preparing your character for end-game content such as dungeons, raiding, and the arena.

When selecting a pet, it is important to consider the speed with which it enters combat and the time it takes to kill a target. As a result, when leveling, pets with gap-closing abilities such as Charge, Dash, and Dive are usually your best bets.

In terms of leveling, there are several options, but Wind Serpents are the best
Wind Serpents, in contrast to the majority of other pets in the game, are ranged creatures. As a result, they will be able to enter combat sooner than their competitors. They have a seven percent damage buff, two damage abilities, and they deal magic damage. It's also relatively simple to obtain max-rank Lightning Breath—the pet's primary damage source—by completing the Zul'Gurub raid, which can be found in Stranglethorn Vale.

You can find a dark blue, green, or orange Wind Serpent in The Wailing Caverns, a red Wind Serpent in The Barrens or Zul'Gurub, and a white Wind Serpent in Thousand Needles. They can also be tamed in Blade's Edge Mountain, Netherstorm, and the Sethekk Halls dungeon in Outland.

Raiding is all about causing damage
Although survivability is important, dealing with the damage and filling the meter should be your top priorities as a Hunter. Ravagers are the most effective on this front for the majority of the expansion.

Ravagers have Dive, which increases their movement speed by 40% for 15 seconds, allowing them to get into combat as quickly as possible. They have a 10 percent damage buff, two damage abilities, and a five percent armor buff to their arsenal. However, one of their abilities, Gore, has a chance to deal double damage. This gives the pet an advantage when raiding.

Wind Serpents outperform Ravagers in terms of damage later in the expansion, when Hunters have greater access to critical strike. This will most likely be the safest option for end-game raiders in Black Temple and Sunwell Plateau.

Yellow Ravagers can be found on Bloodmyst Isle, black and green Ravagers can be found on Hellfire Peninsula, indigo Ravagers can be found in Blade's Edge Mountains, and orange Ravagers can be found in Shadowmoon Valley.

Arena is a place where people can come to watch sports
In the arena, Hunters can choose between two distinct playstyles. The first is focused on dealing damage and will be viable in the early stages of the expansion, while the second is more slow and methodical, focusing on draining mana.

Ravagers will be your most effective option for dealing damage in the arena. A Scorpid is your best bet for draining mana, which will eventually become the most common tactic in competitive battlegroups.

Scorpids inject poison into their prey, preventing them from being stung by your Viper Sting. Healers will typically spam dispels to remove your Viper Sting and maintain their mana. The ability drains 1,368 mana over the course of eight seconds. Before they can remove the debuff, they'll have to deal with other spells such as Hunter's Mark and Scorpid Poison.

Scorpids can be found in a variety of colors: black, bronze, and brown in Durator, green in The Barrens, red in Thousand Needles, yellow in Desolace, and pink in Tanaris.
