The Purpose Of A Firearm Silencer And Why It Needs A Cover
There was a time when it was considered illegal to use silencers on firearms, but this belief was not rooted in the truth, and nowadays most shooters and hunters will use suppressors, or silencers, on their firearms.
The reason why it was considered illegal to use a suppressor is that in cinema at the time it was often portrayed as a tool only used by hitmen and other criminals, or the FBI. However, it is a very useful tool that can be used by anyone operating a firearm and it serves a very important purpose, and that is why they are so widely used today.
There are a few myths and misconceptions regarding silencers or suppressors. The first is that they entirely mute the sound of the firearm, and therefore, the shot. In movies and series, a firearm equipped with a silencer will usually only emit a very soft sound when fired, but in reality, this is not what happens. It is important to understand that the sound of the firearms in movies and series is fabricated and that no silencer can completely quiet the sound of a firearm.
The best a silencer can do is significantly reduce the noise created by the firearm ...
... when a shot is taken, but it will never completely mute it. The silencer will drastically lower the decibel level of the shot and will usually make it safer for your ears, which is its most important function if you think about it.
Another important function of a silencer is that it can reduce the amount of recoil a firearm has. It can even, occasionally and depending on the make and model of the firearm, boost the velocity of the shot by retaining some pressurization behind the bullet once it has left the muzzle but is still within the silencer. Regardless of the type of shooting you do, whether that be hunting or simply enjoying a couple of shots at the range, a silencer is an important tool in making your shooting more enjoyable and better for your hearing.
A suppressor, or silencer, the cover is one of the many accessories that you can purchase if hunting or shooting is your hobby. These covers serve multiple functions and anyone that uses a suppressor or silencer would be well-advised to invest in a cover.
The main purpose of the cover is to reduce the heat emitting from the suppressor. The suppressor can become incredibly hot depending on the make and caliber of the firearm, however, regardless of the type of firearm, some heat will always be present when a shot is fired. The first purpose of the cover is to reduce the heat haze that comes from the suppressor as this can obscure a shooter’s vision and that can be dangerous in the field and cumbersome on the range. It is also important for the suppressor to be covered as some suppressors can reach such a high temperature after a series of shots that it becomes incredibly hazardous when it comes into contact with human skin. A cover will prevent the shooter from coming into accidental contact with the suppressor and suffering serious burns. Finally, a suppressor cover can also help obliterate the heat signature which can be useful when you are faced with an opponent that has thermal imaging gadgets.
A suppressor is one of the best accessories to get for your rifle as it will protect your hearing and can help reduce recoil. However, as suppressors, or silencers, can reach dangerous temperature levels, it is very important to invest in a good-quality cover specifically designed for a silencer to ensure that you’re shooting safely.
