Castors Going For Olympic Gold!

With just over 2 years until the London 2012 Olympic Games, castors are being utilised by many companies preparing for this enormous world class sporting event. Many experts quote that the 2012 Olympic Games will generate over twenty billion pounds for the British Economy. In order for British companies to capitalise, the Government currently organise a ‘Compete For' tendering system encouraging small to medium sized businesses to tender for this lucrative Olympic contracts. The majority of tendering for the buildings and infrastructure is complete and indeed built. However in order for the games to run smoothly, it is now important that these buildings are fitted out with equipment to bring their empty shells to life. Castors are fitted to an enormous array of machinery and equipment, and in our opinion are true gold medal candidates!

During construction of the Stadiums and Olympic parks, local residents became accustomed to seeing massive sets of scaffolding rise up and be dismantled as the arenas were being constructed. Scaffolding castors offer an ingenious solution to moving scaffolding racks into position. In order to fit scaffold castors there are two options available to the construction companies. Either to have a castor with a tube connected to it to house the scaffolding leg, called a socket or to have castors fitted with a large stem to be placed inside the scaffold tube, called a plug fitting. These options are called a socket or plug scaffolding castors. As there are a variety of scaffold tube dimensions, there are also five alternative sizes of plugs and sockets.
Scaffold castors at their maximum size of 200 millimetres in diameter, can take up to loads of 820 kilograms each. These heavy weight scaffold castors can therefore take the weight of huge scaffold towers, and the weight of the builders moving around on the scaffold platform. For smaller scaffold racks, for the painting of ceilings for example, there are the smaller 100 millimetre diameter scaffold castors, again with either the socket of plug fittings.
Once the arenas have been built there is still a vast array of sporting equipment to be moved around the Olympic Park, and an enormous amount of castors will be utilised. Fitting out each Olympic location will involve ensuring Athletes equipment can be easily accessed and moved as required. Equipment racks fitted with castors will travel several miles during the 4 week Games. Also form a spectator's point of view when entering any arena there are mobile food concessions, all fitted with castors to ensure ease of movement into specific locations. So from athlete equipment racks, to mobile food concessions, and even to manoeuvrable winner's podiums, castors will be the back bone of the Olympic Games! With just over 2 years until the London 2012 Olympic Games, castors are being utilised by many companies preparing for this enormous world class sporting event.
