7 Diy Car Maintenance Tasks That Anyone Can Perform Easily
The people who already know how to maintain the most important parts of their vehicles are the most accomplished nowadays. The lockdown must not have been an issue for them. They didn’t have to wait in the house and see the component of their car deteriorating because they knew how to take care of it.
Understandably, there is hardly any need for a person to do the maintenance tasks by themselves as you can easily search for
full car service near me and take your vehicle to the nearest garage. But the need arises when a pandemic happens and everyone gets locked inside their houses or when you get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no mechanic nearby. You must think that DIY car maintenance is hard but it is way easier than you anticipated.
Here are a few maintenance tasks that everyone can do themselves:
Oil change
The most important thing to keep your car running smoothly is the change of oil. The oil becomes less effective with time as its components break down. The breaking down of the oil prevents it from performing the job of lubricating ...
... the vehicle’s parts properly. The oil also tends to get dirty as particles start mixing into it and the performance of the car gets affected.
It is not a difficult task to replace the oil. It also saves you money. You just have to put the vehicle up on jacks and look for the oil drain plug. once you find it, get all the dirty fuel out of the tank, replace the existing plug and then add the new and fresh fuel.
Cabin air filter replacement
A clogged or dirty air filter can affect the performance of the air conditioner and also destroy the environment. It will make it uncomfortable for the driver as well as the passenger to sit inside the car.
The filter is installed behind the ducts where you can reach them easily. Go to an auto parts shop and get the new air filters along with printed instructions. Follow the instructions closely and carefully take out the used filters. Make sure that you install the new filters accurately and in the right direction.
Engine air filter replacement
It is one of the easiest components to replace in a car. You can check if the filter needs replacement or not. Use a torch to check that how much of the light passes through the filter. If the filter blocks more than 50% of the light, then you need to replace it. If not, you can put the old filter back in its place.
To replace the filter, you have to unscrew the filter box retainers so you can access the old filter. Remove the old, and the new ones properly and tighten the screws again.
Brake fluid flush
There is a possibility that the fluid develops moisture with time inside the braking system. The fluid need to be in proper condition for the brakes to work properly. Bad liquid can affect the performance of the vehicle and other components may get corrosion because of this. It is recommended that you flush the fluid every two years. The flushing of the fluid will cause the car to work properly again. Many people tend to ignore this step during maintenance, but it is important.
Tyre rotation
Tyre rotation is necessary for your tyre to work properly. Tyre rotation is done for the perfect wheel alignment of the car. It is recommended to get the tyre rotated after every 6000 miles. It is not a hard thing to rotate them yourself as well. The items that you’ll require is a jack and a wrench. You can see the guide online or ask any mechanic for the procedure. It’s also important to rotate your tyres so they would wear evenly.
Replacement of the windshield wipers
Wipers are one of the easiest parts to replace but they also get damaged easily. They can get affected by heavy rain or snowfall. If the blades are failing to do their job of wiping the windshield clean and they leave a prominent mark on the windshield, then they probably need to be replaced.
You can get the new ones from the nearest auto parts shop. There are different types of blades available at different prices. You can choose the ones that you think are the best for you. Follow the instalment procedure given on the package step by step.
Coolant change
The coolant is the fluid that prevents your vehicle from overheating. It needs to be at a certain level for the car to run smoothly. If the level of the liquid drops, the car starts to overheat and it is very risky for the driver to drive an overheating car.
You need to check the level of the fluid daily and if it is too low then you should refill it immediately. If you feel that the level is dropping frequently then it probably indicates a leakage. You can notice a leak easily as there would be thick liquid dripping out of your car. If a thing like this occurs, you need to change the gaskets as they might be damaged.
