The period between your graduation and first job could be exciting, overwhelming and sometimes discouraging. The transition from a dependent life to independent life is quite extreme. 1. Network
Network, Network and Network. Don't underestimate the importance of this activity. With an easy availability of various professional networking tools, connecting with employers is easier than ever. Create your profile on LinkedIn and search for the people who could help you grow. It could be anyone who is already established in the field you aspire to grow or an employee at your dream company or a mentor that could guide you further. Leave your professional footprints on such networking platforms. For an in person networking, attend the job fairs and industrial talks in your city. You would be landed with hundreds of contacts. Besides, you would never truly know the power of networking till you taste the fruits bore by it.
2. Use job search tools
Everything ...
... is possible with Google. Use it effectively to find a job for yourself. There are numerous job consultants who offer open job portal for recruiters and candidates to connect. Firstly analyse the kind of role you would be interested in and then search accordingly. You would be surprised with options available on these platforms.
3. Consult a consultant
It is advisable to consult a consultant if the process of job search gets too overwhelming for you. There are numerous career consultants who would help you find your career goal. Besides, you could also seek help of job consultants. Job consultants have wide database of firms who are seeking candidates for their vacant positions. Besides, these skilled recruiters would help you find the job with best fit.
4. Build your Resume skilfully
Your resume could either land in a trash can or could help you get an interview. It all depends on the efforts you put in while curating your resume. Your resume should align with the job description of the job you're applying for. Boast about your achievements in an achievement section. Don't fail to mention all the voluntary work you participated in, the internships you undertook during your college. After all, your empty experience section should not over overshadow your bright candidature.
5. Follow a plan
You won't land a job simply by wishing for a job. You have to get off that bed, apply for jobs, and follow up on your applications. Make a detailed plan of your job search process. Dedicate certain amount of time every day to send your customised application to recruiters. There is hardly a 10% chance of your application being considered for an interview. You cannot hold your hopes to a single particular job. Set timely goals and devise plans and strategies to achieve them.
