Murals: Wall painting in City Palace Udaipur
The city of lakes is rich in heritage and culture, One of its most popular places to explore is the City Palace of Udaipur, Distinguished as the largest palace complex it was built by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559 and expanded by 23 generations of Mewar ruler over 400 years. It is an example of great architecture and artistic representation, The interiors of the palace are decorated with intricate mirrors, marble works, murals, wall paintings, silver works, and colored glass. One of these artwork's murals is a great attraction. During the times of the Maharanas, many Muralists (an artist who paints murals) came to Mewar and explore their work in his empire, they made Murals on the walls of the palace, this can be seen in present days also. Information about this art and artist is narrated by many historians in their books.
Paintings have a relation with human beings from eternity. Inspiration of art always taken from nature and surroundings and sometimes the imagination of artists. The mural comprises a large piece of art painted on walls, ceilings, or any other permanent ...

It is usually painted on बाजू मँड़ाई (outside walls of palace or any building) इजारा (outside border of the building) मेहराब (windows and doors) दोर ताकड़ी (inside borders) टोडी (under roof). It consists of nature, animals, birds, beautiful Aravali Ranges, the standard of living, language, culture, religion, etc.
Colors and process: For making Murals one will require pre-made color which they use in the art piece along with celerity and skill for giving the art a shape. Colors which used to make a Mural has its own different process to be made. Historians believed that the use of चुना (lime paint) for the base will enhance the effect of colors. Different minerals were mixed with limestone powder to obtain special colors. To light down these colors, they were soaked in water for 6 months, and to solidify glue was used. That process is called आला गीला (Irish method). In Mewar, bright colors were used to make murals so because it enhances their visibility. Some of the commonly used colors are हिरमिच (Indian Red), रामरज(orange), हराभाटा (green), गेरू (red), नीला (blue), काजल(Black) and सफेद (White)
Characteristics of Mural: Mural Picture specified the seasons, stories of Shree Krishna, wildlife, birds, different forms of love, sports, religious beliefs, melody, etc. Udaipur’s Famous Mural is about hunting in the wild, Royal Courts, Ghanghor festival, Special Programs, etc. Mythological Mural can be found on the main entrance, of Palace and Haveli with a picture of Ganpati, and ceiling with mythological tales, Side of the doors was covered with heavy floral designs, horse riders, fighting elephant, running camels, servants, carriage and horses, that is inspired from nature. In present days it is tradition to paint this art on the wall when there is marriage in local houses. In Udaipur, some of the murals can be found in Nagar Seth Ki Haveli, Jagnivas, Sarvritu Vilas, Karn Vilas, Krishna Vilas, and Dhabhai Ji Ki Haveli.
