Electronic components generate heat due to power consumption and it is no exception to the rule when it comes to computers. Inside the casing of the computer the VGA card, CPU, as well as all other electrical components and chips generate heat.
The temperature inside your computer's casing can have a major effect on the performance and the speed of your system. If the heat is not expelled, then the possibility of the processer and other components can become permanently damaged.
To keep your processor and components in good running order it is essential to have a good cooling system installed in your cabinet. This will not only increase the lifespan of your computer but help it to perform optimally. At the moment there are two kinds of cooling systems employed in the computer system namely CPU Cooling and Case Cooling.
Case Cooling employs an air cooling system to expel the heat that is generated inside the case. This type of temperature control is an affordable and common solution for reducing the temperature inside the computer's cabinet.
To extract the warm air out and pull in cool air, there are ...
... numerous fans used to keep the temperature at bay. Often, heat sinks (big blocks of metal) are fixed to a heat-creating component such as a VGA card or CPU to disperse the heat more swiftly, also identified as passive cooling.
The majority of computers have a combination of fans for cooling the cabinet such as front intake fan, top, and rear exhaust fans, and power supply exhaust fan.
Front Intake Fan: This fan is fixed to the front of the case and used to draw in cool and fresh air into the cabinet to maintain a cool environment.
Tope Exhaust and Rear Fans: This fan is affixed at the top and the back of the cabinet and is employed to extract hot air.
Power Supply Exhaust Fan: This fan is situated at the rear end of the power supply and used to decrease the temperature of the power supply and also expel warm air out of the power supply unit and cabinet.
Compared to other components the CPU generates the most heat and therefore it requires suitable measures to ensure that the CPU is cooled efficiently to avoid any damage. The most conventional approach to cool the CPU is liquid cooling and air cooling.
The components inside the majority of computers are cooled via air that is distributed in the cabinet. The heat sink features a fixed fan that is connected to the flat section of the CPU to cover more surface space. The heat sink mostly is made up of fins designed of aluminum that are placed in rows and feature a fan that is placed at the side or top of the metal fins. The fan then drives the air towards the heat sink, whilst the warm air that is inside the sink magnifies and gets expelled out of the sink and out of the computer cabinet via a cooling system.
Another approach to cool processors is via liquid cooling. This alternative solution uses a unique water block to deport heat away from the chipset and processor. Water is distributed via a pump to a radiator where it is chilled. The radiator feature a fan that is affixed to it.
In conclusion, there is more than one way to keep your computer cabinet cool during operation. If you notice that your computer is not performing as it should and becomes hot, it is best to ask the advice and recommendation of a computer cooling specialist. Remember, excessive heat can damage your computer components and the worst-case scenario, even cause your computer to cease completely.
