In order to become a professional chiropractor in Australia, individuals need to complete five years of relevant study at an approved university. Despite the chiropractic industry growing in the country, there is a limited number of universities for students to learn clinical chiropractic care and gain qualifications.

If you’re looking to become a chiropractor in Australia or want to learn chiropractic care in the country, here are the university options available to you.

Macquarie University, Sydney, New South Wales

Macquarie University students need to pass and complete five years of clinical chiropractic study in order to qualify as professional chiropractors. Students will first complete a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science (for three years) followed by a two year Master of Chiropractic.

Macquarie University is known for providing its students with clinical experience, having two well-established chiropractic clinics in Summer Hill and Eastwood. RMIT University, Melbourne, Victoria

At RMIT University, students can complete a three year Bachelor of Health Science (Chiropractic) degree, followed by a two year Master of Clinical Chiropractic postgraduate program. Studying chiropractic care at RMIT University will allow students to gain industry connections and perform patient-care duties during their fourth year.

The focus of the chiropractic program is to help patients learn manual treatments (such as spinal adjustments) and diagnose and measure musculoskeletal disorders. Students will also gain a background in the broader fields of anatomy, physiology and pathology.

Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia

Murdoch University is the only university out of the four on this list to offer a dual five year program (over two-part undergraduate and postgraduate studies). The university offers a Bachelor of Applied Science (majoring in Chiropractic) and a Bachelor of Chiropractic.

The chiropractic care program sports a five star rating for overall teaching quality and skills development as well as experience in Health Services and Support (from the Good Universities Guide 2020). Murdoch University helps students gain hands-on chiropractic experience by teaching them at the on-campus chiropractic and rehabilitation clinic, as well as advising them through the university's practice management unit.

Central Queensland University, Brisbane, Queensland

With campuses in Melbourne and Sydney, CQU offers students a three year long Bachelor of Science (Chiropractic) and a two year Master of Clinical Chiropractic. The five years of study at Central Queensland University will teach students basic chiropractic techniques as well as provide them the opportunity to assist in a chiropractic practice. The Master of Clinical Chiropractic at Central Queensland University helps students gain a background in sports medicine, rehabilitation and occupational health and safety.
