Surfing Locations In Asia
Although Asia is not the most well-known continent for its beachy landscapes nor involvement in watersports, it does have a few prime surfing locations. Particularly around the pacific islands and southern areas, Asia is home to a few legendary surfing beaches. If you are a surfing enthusiast looking to travel around Asia in the future, here are a few areas to consider visiting.
Kuta Beach, Bali, Indonesia
Bali is well known for its tropical holiday vibes, and where better than such an island to spend a few days surfing? Indonesia is on par with countries like Australia that are considered optimal surfing locations, and is famous for its numerous popular surfing beaches including Kuta Beach.
Kuta Beach is the most well known surfing beach in Bali and although can get busy at times, is a comfortable place for both amateur and expert surfers to ride the waves. The beach is wide enough for experienced surfers to enjoy their time at the quieter end of the beach, while casual holiday-goers can spend their time near the cafes and restaurants at the beach’s centre strip.

... Lanka is a great place to visit for beginner surfers who are looking for calmer yet still enjoyable waves to experience. Weligama is located on the Southern tip of Sri Lanka and is home to exciting waves all year round - best for beginner and amateur surfers.
The beach is also a great fishing location, with many colourful fishing boats usually littering around the sea area. The atmosphere at Weligama Beach is ideal for beach-lovers, as the area is well known for its laid back vibes and friendly local community.
Pansea Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Thailand is well known around the world for its hot weather and tropical scenery and so naturally, Pansea Beach is simply a given when it comes to the best surfing beaches in Asia today. Although not as popular as Surin Beach, Pansea Beach offers surfers incredibly exciting waves in a more secluded area.
Pansea Beach is geared towards experienced surfers who are looking for challenging point breaks and just overall stellar wave quality. Despite only being 250 metres long, Pansea Beach is a small secret beach expert surfers around the world include on their bucket list and visit for the fun waves.
Koh Russey, Sihanoukville, Cambodia
Sandwiched between beach-filled countries like Thailand and Vietnam, Cambodian beaches are not unfamiliar with the surfing sport, and in fact, a couple are great for experienced surfers. Koh Russet is located on a secluded island ten minutes boat ride from the coast of Cambodia, and is a great place to visit for dedicated surfers. The best time to visit this beach to surf is in between June and October, during the monsoon swells.
With fantastic wave quality as well as friendly locals to spend some time with, Koh Russey is definitely a must-visit beach if you are already planning on travelling to Cambodia.
Before planning to travel around Asia to the surfing locations listed above, make sure you are prepared. Purchase the right surfing gear for you before you travel, as it may be difficult to find fitted gear in a foreign country. If you are looking for high-quality wetsuits, click here.
