safe temperature
When it comes to storing food the first major thing to keep in mind is the temperature. Because if food is not stored correctly it may get contaminated or can spoil. And when people take contaminated food they get sick. Sometimes contaminated food also causes serious illnesses.
For food storage, food is placed in the pantry, fridge, or freezer. You can also buy the cheapest undercounter fridge for storing food for 24 hours or more at a safe temperature. Moreover, some warming receptacle also keeps the food at a safe temperature.
General Instruction for Food Storage
Proper food storage is important for maintaining food safety and also the health of people. It is important to check the use-by date or best-before date before purchasing any product. These dates will help you to decide where you can put the product for storage. ...
... But once you open the can, make sure you put it in the fridge.
Additionally, make sure that you store food in sanitary containers in a dry and clean place. During the summer season, make sure you put the food in the fridge.
Put the Food in the Fridge
If there are storing instructions mentioned on the label, follow them. If the label is saying ‘keep refrigerated’, keep the food in your fridge. Even if there is no label but you know that this food will go off quickly, it is important to place it in the fridge. Because that food needs a lower temperature to be safe. Some bottles and jars can be stored at room temperature.
But once they have been opened, make sure you place them in the fridge, especially if the weather is warm. Moreover, the safe temperature for cooked food is also low, so keep it in the fridge until you want to eat it. Keep the food in the fridge after cooling down within 3 to 4 hours.
Storage of Meat at Safe Temperature
If you keep meat at room temperature for 24 hours, it will be contaminated due to the spread of bacteria. Because raw meat is a perfect space for microorganisms to grow at room temperature. To prevent the spread of bacteria, it is important to store it safely.
Poultry and raw meat should be stored in clean, dry, and sealed containers in the fridge. Put the meat storing containers on the bottom shelf to prevent contamination of other food items. This method will keep your meat safe for 24 hours but for long-term storage keep it in the freezer.
Safe Storage for Dry Foods
Some foods can be stored at room temperature for 24 hours or more. These foods include pasta, flour, rice, and tinned foods until opened, drinks, etc. But it is important to keep them at a safe temperature. You can store dry food in food containers and sealed bags to keep it fresh and prevent spoilage because of insects.
But avoid reusing containers that were previously used for some other purposes or damaged containers.
Use Cling Film to Cover the Food
To store food at a safe temperature you can use cling film for covering it. But always remember that cling film is not suitable for all types of food storage. The description on the box can help you in identifying how and with which foods you can use it.
If you just want to store your food for 24 hours. And room temperature is safe for the food then cover it with cling film and keep it on the counter.
Use Kitchen Foil to Store Food
If the food that you need to store for 24 hours needs to cover then kitchen foil can be used. It is made of aluminum which’s why not suitable for containers made from aluminum. Moreover, you shouldn’t use aluminum foil for covering or wrapping foods that are highly acidic. These foods include tomatoes, rhubarb, soft fruits, cabbage, etc.
