One such issue that has proven to be a menace for the country for many years is the disease called tuberculosis. Facts and figures point towards a situation that states that India is the home to maximum number of deaths by tuberculosis in the world. This means that, in India, there are chances that if a person visit a doctor seeking dry cough treatment, chances are she or he might get diagnosed with tuberculosis. From a young child to a senior citizen, anybody could end up suffering from this horrible disease.
There are various factors that could act as the cause behind this disease. Since a sizeable population in India lives below the poverty line, it is obvious that they don’t have access to proper facilities. From accessing basic cough remedies to seeking medical treatment for big diseases, proper healthcare facilities are a myth for the poor in the country, hence making them extremely vulnerable to a disease like tuberculosis. Lack of proper infrastructure to help the needy and the non-availability of proper resources add fuel to the fire.
A weak immune system as a result of malnourishment also acts as a ...
... factor that contributes to the spreading of this disease. India is full of people who go to bed hungry at night. When accessing two square meals a day becomes a difficulty, fighting a disease like tuberculosis becomes even more difficult. In recent times, pollution has also been identified as a phenomenon that is making an already bad situation even worse. Various respiratory diseases and other hygiene issues that arise due to pollution also contribute to the spread of tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis as a disease not only affect the physical health of a person but also has an impact on her or his mental health. There is an inappropriate stigma that is attached to the disease which makes the fight against tuberculosis tricky. The need of the hour is to be empathetic towards those who have the misfortune of suffering from this disease. Making small compassionate gestures, even as small as offering an ayurvedic cough syrup to an individual in need, can go a long way in boosting their morale. It is true that the government and other social organizations are doing their bit in the country. From implementing the National TB Elimination Program to ensuring that the Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) strategy is followed, the government is leaving no stone unturned in its fight against tuberculosis. There is, however, still a very long way to go.
