Unfolding Of Wine Bottle Opener From Then To Now
The corkscrew has its origin long ago. No one exactly knows the date when it came into existence. As per historians, the idea may come from a tool removing unspent charges from the musket. Before the wine bottle opener, people used removable gun worms for ejecting corks.
Wine has a great heritage. People used to celebrate with wine. But, without perfectly removing the cork, one cannot enjoy wine. It may happen that the cork broke midway. Further, the bottle can slip and break.
Father of corkscrews:
The father of corkscrews is an Englishman whose name is Samuel Henshall. In 1975, he got the first patent. He has done certain improvements. The main was the concave disk’s insertion between handle and worm.
The disk had two purposes:
It restricted a user from screwing very deep into the specific cork.
The disk used to create a force on the cork. It broke the seal present between the cork and the neck of the glass.
1864:- Two-pronged Cork-Puller “Ah-So”
This remover worked fine when the cork is not in favorable condition. It used to take more time and ...
... effort. In England, it was famous as ‘Butler’s Friend’. The butlers used to remove corks. Then, they checked the quality of the wine. Finally, they replaced the cork.
1880:- Double lever Corkscrew:

Heely attached the opener’s arms to a collar that can be slid on a shaft. Moreover, David Olalenta, a Spanish industrial designer created the distinct version of the winged owl. It had a mechanism of rack and pinion. In many modern households, this kind of wing works.
1900:- Walker Bell Corkscrew:
Edwin Walker designed this wine bottle opener. He received the US patent. The tool contains a wooden handle, bell shape, and worm.
1920:- Zig Zag:
Marie Jules Leon Bart designed it. This opener used to be a geometrical wonder. It was a first-class French product. This tool uses a series of levers. It is to pluck the cork from a bottle.
1960:- Cork-Pops:
It was a tool containing a low-pressure carbon dioxide cartridge. A hollow needle goes into the cork. The cartridge used to release a string burst of gas. The increased pressure removed the cork successfully. People can open around 80 bottles using one cartridge.
The 1970s:- Rabbit:
This tool used to remove corks as fast as 3 seconds. It was ideal for opening a massive number of bottles.
2004:- Air Pump:
This tool has a Teflon needle and an air pump. The user has to insert the needle into the bottle’s cork. Then, he/she has to keep on pumping till the cork pops or comes out. There is no need for twisting and pulling.
