One big reason that people aspire to be like celebrities and regularly engage with celebrity news is their desire to belong. Being a fan of a celebrity puts you in the company of other fans. Just look at fanbases like the Beyhive for Beyonce, Arianators for Ariana Grande and Beliebers for Justin Bieber. Members of a fanbase feel connected to other members and find a sense of community. They might also see something in the celebrity that they see in themselves, making them more likely to aspire to be like them.

Of course, you don’t have to obsess over celebrity news to aspire to be a celebrity. Many people don’t take their celebrity admiration too seriously; it’s simply something that enriches their lives. People have many different reasons for admiring a celebrity and aspiring to be like them, as evidenced by how common it is in our society.
