Farah Khan wears many hats. She started her career as a dancer, became a famous Bollywood choreographer, chased her dream of becoming a film director, and also hosts various chat/talk shows or game shows on Television. Farah Khan is perhaps the only female director of Bollywood who makes mainstream masala movies. Before her, almost all female directors in Bollywood have made niche or arthouse films.
Choreography would remain her primary identity in Bollywood but she has forayed into many other things and that’s what makes her insanely famous among the audience. Her funny vibe, quirky one-liners in interviews and talk shows, and affable personality make her so popular among the viewers.

Just like her interviews and her on-screen persona, her movies can also be described in one word – entertaining. This jovial personality will celebrate her 56th birthday on 9th January and here are 9 fun facts about Farah Khan: -

1.Farah Khan’s father was Kamran Khan who was a stuntman turned filmmaker. Her mother is Manaka Irani who is the sister of Honey Irani – the writer, filmmaker, and mother of famous Bollywood ...
... film directors Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar.

2.Unlike other dancers or choreographers in Bollywood, Farah Khan never had any traditional training in dance forms. She was a student of Sociology in St. Xavier’s College, Bombay, and one fine day she watched MJ in “Thriller”. This changed her life forever. She was so inspired to dance and thus began a beautiful journey. Who could have ever thought that a practically non-dancer would make the superstars and megastars dance to her steps!

3.The fans of Farah Khan must thank Saroj Khan. Because Saroj Khan didn’t turn up for the shoot of iconic Pehla Nasha from Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Farah Khan got the chance to create something that Bollywood has never seen before.

4.Farah Khan was actually assisting the director at that time when she learned that Saroj Khan isn’t there to choreograph the song and that’s how she stepped in. Pehla Nasha was shot in slow motion and that quite became a rage among the viewers and industry insiders. Pooja Bedi was having difficulty to dance and thus Farah arranged a studio fan and coaxed her to give that "flying skirt" pose by Marilyn Monroe.

5.Can you believe that Farah Khan has choreographed dance routines for more than a hundred songs in over 80 Hindi films? That’s a staggering number. And for all that hard work, she has won 6 Filmfare Awards for Best Choreography and one National Film Award for Best Choreography.

6.Just like her debut Bollywood song, her debut movie as a director too earned praises and became the second highest-grossing movie of 2004 after Veer-Zaara. For her debut movie Main Hoon Na, Farah Khan became the second female director to be nominated for “Best Director” in the Filmfare Awards.

7.Apart from small blink and miss roles in popular movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai or Kal Ho Naa Ho, Farah Khan also has a full-fledged role in her kitty. Farah Khan played the lead actor in Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi – a 2012 Bela Sehgal directed romantic comedy movie. You can watch this fun movie at Mzaalo – the best free movie streaming app and participate in their “bid & win” contest. 8.Farah Khan even choreographed Jackie Chan for his movie Kung Fu Yoga.

9.Talking about her international movies and recognitions, Farah Khan worked in notable movies like Vanity Fair, Bombay Dreams, and Monsoon Wedding. Her amazing work in Bombay Dreams earned her a Tony Awards nomination in 2004.

We wish this stunning lady a very happy birthday!
