It is a well known fact that the Original Medicare does not provide the coverage for the total medical costs that one may need. Therefore there always remains a gap between the policy coverage of the Original Medicare and the total medical bill payable by the patient. Thus to bridge this gap the need of some supplementary insurance coverage is needed the most. For this purpose there are the Medicare supplement plans which are the best option one can get to bridge the gap between the original Medicare policy coverage and the actual medical bill payable. The point is that the Medicare supplement plans are supplementary health insurance policies that helps a lot in making the Medicare insurance plans more profitable to the beneficiaries. And because of this nature of the Medicare supplement plans of bridging the gap between the original Medicare and the actual Medical bill payable these plans are also known as the Medigap policies.

But the latest news is that by June 2010 there are some major changes coming up in the standard Medicare supplement plans. With the new changes in the Medigap policies four of the existing plans are going to be excluded and in place of that two new plans M and N are going to be introduced. It is hoped that these new plans are going to be much popular with the beneficiaries for the reason that these plans offer more profitable option for the beneficiaries. Using cost sharing method and deductibles these plans are also going to reduce premium charges thereby it is natural that these plans are going to be the favorites of the customers. Therefore now if your are thinking for going to the Medicare supplement plans it is better that you make your choice quite carefully for the reason that with the new changes the option of the choice also changes a lot. On the other hand it is advisable to go through all of the offer documents carefully before you choose any of the Medigap health insurance plans for the better returns for your future.
