Should We Organize Athletic Competition for Children under Nine ghd
The following appeared in a letter to the editor of the Parkville Daily Newspaper. "Throughout the country last year, as more and more children below the age of nine participated in youth-league softball and soccer, over 80, 000 of these young players suffered injuries. When interviewed for a recent study, youth-league softball players in several major cities also reported psychological pressure from coaches and parents to win games. Furthermore, education experts say that long practice sessions for these sports take away time that could be used for academic activities. Since the disadvantages apparently outweigh any advantages, we in Parkville should discontinue organized athletic competition for children under nine. "
I don't think this topic is reasonable. Every coin has two sides, though the young players may suffer injuries in the games, games may take away time that could be used for academic activities, the advantages still apparently outweigh the disadvantages. My reasons as follows;
The ...
... first reason; playing games are good for our study. Do you know a proverb; "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. " Although study is the most important thing, students should keep in mind that sports and games are also indispensable. Sports and games are of great value especially to those who work with the brain most of the day. Taking part in sports is bound to help improve our academic performance.
The second reason: The children should face the difficulties. Spare the rod and spoil the child. Human society is full of tests and trial. Flowers from a greenhouse can never withstand a storm. Therefore, children should be allowed to face the world and brave to the storm.
The third reason: though it may bring them psychological pressure, the competition is also an important element in social development. It is found everywhere because it is human inborn nature to long for the better. It makes people creative and urges people to pursue for the excellence.
The fourth reason; it is good for our health. The first wealth is health. A person poor in health cannot achieve much success though he is well educated or well off. Sports can help people stay healthy. Physical exercise can increase the circulation of the blood and metabolism and thus more oxygen is taken in and more waste matter is expelled from the body. Physical exercise can increase appetite and digestion. A person who takes exercise spends more energy. The more energy he spends, the more blood he uses. New blood requires food to keep it pure.
The fifth reason: the games are helpful for character-training. In this game, patience is needed.
For all these reasons, advantages apparently outweigh disadvantages, we should not discontinue organized athletic competition for children under nine.
