3 Immunity Boosting Foods To Include In Your Diet
But before we get into the benefits of including certain immunity booster foods in our diets, it’s important to understand our immune system first. An immune system is a complex network of cells, tissues and organs that work together to protect our bodies from germs and infections. It detects the harmful substances, differentiates it from the body’s own healthy tissues and then fights them off in order to protect the body from diseases. In layman’s terms, think of our immune system as the body’s soldiers who’re ready to defend the body from harmful outsiders.
But in order to be able to protect the body effectively, our immune systems need our help too. And help can come in the form of a healthy, nutritious diet or even lifestyle changes that are known to boost immune system. A healthy diet consists of fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins and minerals, proteins and a lot more. So, what foods exactly should you include in your diet?
1.Broccoli
This green vegetable that is a cauliflower look-alike is a powerhouse of vitamins, minerals and fiber. It is a rich source of vitamin C, A and K ...
... along with potassium, phosphorus and selenium, thus being extremely beneficial for our immunity. It’s known to be one of the healthiest vegetables that is recommended to be cooked as little as possible. Steaming this green powerhouse vegetable is the best way to consume it since it can retain maximum nutrients this way. You can add this to pastas, salads and a lot more meals in your day because of how versatile it is.
2.Ginger
Ginger has been a popular ingredient in Ayurvedic medicines due to its multi-functional healing properties. It contains an active ingredient called Gingerol which is really good for your immunity because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps treat inflammation of the throat which also makes it a good natural treatment for sore throat, cold and cough. While it is used in most Indian dishes, you can also take it as ginger teas and household concoctions.
3.Citrus fruits
One thing that has become increasingly clear during the pandemic is the wide array of benefits of vitamin C. It is a natural immunity booster which helps in the production of more white blood cells that fight against infections. Citrus fruits like grapefruits, oranges and lemons are a rich source of vitamin C and since our bodies don’t produce or store it, they’re a great way to consume this essential vitamin.
A healthy diet is all about including all sources of energy, which also help keep the immune system strong. This coupled wth a healthy lifestyle is all you need for a healthy immune system.
