Difference Between Opc And Ppc Cement
Cement is a substance made by heating limestone (or calcium carbonate) with small quantities of other materials (such as clay) to a temperature of 1450°C in a kiln. The resulting hard substance, called 'clinker', is then ground with a small amount of gypsum into a powder that we call 'Cement'. The cement created in this way is called the Ordinary Portland Cement.
Portland cement is one of the most common types of cement used around the world especially in general construction, along with being used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout. It was developed from other types of hydraulic lime in England in the mid 19th century and it usually originates from limestone.
OPC is a type of Portland cement. Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) is one of the most common types of cement used in general concrete construction when there is no exposure to sulfates in the soil or groundwater.
PPC (Portland Pozzolana Cement) is one of the variations of Ordinary Portland Cement. When Pozzolana materials namely fly ash, volcanic ash, etc are added to OPC, it becomes PPC. Both of these are ...
... eco-friendly materials but PPC uses natural and industrial waste thus it works better at reducing the environmental pollution.
OPC is available in a variety of grades namely grade 33, grade 43, and grade 53. Pozzolana, on the other hand, is available in a single grade and its strength matches the strength of grade 33 OPC after curing.
OPC is the most commonly used cement in construction projects.OPC is used primarily in cases where sulfate attacks are not a common occurrence. PPC is highly resistant to sulfate attacks and thus, it is primarily preferred for use in the construction of dams, foundations, buildings near the seashore, reservoirs, and many more relevant places.
PPC also happens to be cheaper than the OPC variant. And what’s more, PPC also has low initial setting strength compared to OPC but it hardens more than OPC over a certain period of time if the proper curing process is followed.
OPC is also very easy to handle because it is less fine than PPC. Both OPC and PPC are commonly used Cement in construction projects and both have their own sets of pros and cons.
It all depends on your construction needs and requirements. OPC cement is usually more preferred when fast construction is required but it is not suitable for mass concreting purposes due to its heat issues. Just be sure that the cement needs to fit the requirements and usage of your project.
Tansen Cement is proud to manufacture the Best Cement in Nepal. Tansen Cement is manufactured by Palpa Cement Industries PVT. LTD., one of the biggest producers of the best OPC cement in Nepal.
