The Kanye West/Susan Boyle virus

Both are talented artists and both had viral videos that made frequent headlines last year.
What a surprise how nice a voice Susan Boyle has, and let me ask all of you reading this: Did you see the performance on TV or did you view it on the Internet? Now let me ask you if you happened to be watching MTV when Kanye West got up on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMAs or did you catch that one online as well?
Hey, maybe West's video had a negative effect while Boyle enjoyed a positive one, but I am not writing to debate whether all press is good press. The point I am trying to make is how viral videos have an amazing reach for such a low cost. In Boyle's case, maybe a few million people saw her on TV in the UK, but thanks to the Internet the whole world had a chance to see and hear her sing. The best part about it is normally a musician would have to sing at the halftime show of the Super Bowl to get hundreds of millions of viewers. In Boyle's case, she actually had a larger audience and it was mostly free distribution.
So how can a business take advantage ...
... of viral videos? Check out the clip below created by Bensons for Beds, an English bed retailer. It was not very expensive for Bensons to produce and I am sure the company got a lot of local press after the video went viral.
