Setting a Notes Password on iPhone and iPad
Setting up a password for the Notes app is a simple and straightforward process. Notably, you can set a password using two methods: The Notes app and the settings menu.
Using the Notes App to Set a Password
The steps to set up a password for the Notes app using the app are:

Open any existing note or make a new note.
Tap on the ‘ellipses’ icon in the top-right corner of the window.
Click on the ‘Lock’ icon from the menu.
Enter a password in the given space that you’ll be using to unlock a note.
Note: The same password will be used for all your notes, including the Notes app on Mac.
Enter the same password for verification.
Add a hint to the password, though it’s not compulsory.
Turn on the slider for the ‘Touch ID’ or ‘Face ID’ option, depending upon the model of your phone.
Hit the ‘Done’ button to save the settings.
Using the Settings Menu to Set a Password
The steps to set up a password for the Notes app using the settings menu are:
Go to the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone or iPad.
Locate the ‘Notes’ app and click on the same.
Click on the ‘Password’ option in the next window.
Enter a password in the given space that you’ll be using to unlock a note.
Enter the same password for verification.
Add a hint to the password.
Turn on the slider for the ‘Touch ID’ or ‘Face ID’ option.
Hit the ‘Done’ button to save the settings.
Using the ‘Touch ID’ or ‘Face ID’ method is fast and easy. However, it is advised to use a password in this case.
Locking Notes on iPhone and iPad
Once a password is set for your Notes app, you can lock a note anytime to keep it from others. The steps to do the same are:
Open the Notes app on your iPhone or iPad.
Open any existing or a new note.
Tap on the ‘ellipses’ icon in the top-right corner.
Click on the ‘Lock’ icon.
If you’ve set a ‘Touch ID’ or ‘Face ID,’ you can use the same to lock a note. If you’ve chosen to enter a password, click on the ‘Enter Password’ option in the pop-up menu.
A lock animation will appear on the screen, denoting that the note has been locked. Notably, the content inside the note is hidden, but the title remains visible to make it easy for you to find out a specific note. Therefore, it is advised not to enter any information in the title you don’t want to reveal.
Unlocking a Note Using a Face ID, Touch ID, or Password
To unlock a note for viewing, editing, and adding content to the note, the steps are as follows:
Open the Notes app on your iPhone or iPad.
Select and open the note you want to unlock.
Click on the ‘View Note’ option or the lock icon at the top right corner.
Now, use the Face ID or Touch ID to unlock. If they’re disabled, enter the password you had set.
Changing the Notes Password
The steps to change the password for your notes are:
Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
Click on the ‘Notes’ tab.
Tap on the ‘Password’ option in the next window.
Click on the ‘Change Password’ option.
Enter your old and new password in the given space.
Enter the new password again for verification.
Enter a hint for the password.
Hit the ‘Done’ button.
