Mahindra Cars In India
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) was founded in India in 1945 as Mahindra & Mohammed. A little later after the partition of India, Ghulam Mohammad who was one of the partners of the company went to Pakistan. He became Finance Minister there. After that, in 1948, Mahindra & Mohammed got a change in name as Mahindra & Mahindra. The company started its operations in India as a producer of general-purpose utility vehicles. It assembled CKD cars in 1949. With years passing, the company has expanded its business and we now see more and more Mahindra cars in India.
M&M partnered with not just Indian companies but with prominent ones in the international market too, including Renault SA, International Truck and Engine Corporation, USA, in order to show off its global presence. M&M is also exporting products from India to different nations across the globe. It now has many branches in many nations.
Now, we see how M&M has entered the passenger car segment in India, with the manufacture of Logan, a mid-size sedan in April 2007. The Logan was born under the Mahindra-Renault collaboration. The joint ...
... venture has dissolved but the car is still being sold under the M&M brand. It had also been speculated recently that the Logan would suffer a facelift. It would come with a smaller body. The market for the Logan has been diminishing of late and these cars are bought only as taxis. Indians may be finding it a little difficult to digest the monstrous size of the sedan. However, this is Mahindra & Mahindra's smallest car plying on India's roads. The bigger ones are the Scorpio and the Bolero.
As far as India is concerned, the Mahindra Bolero and Scorpio have gained great popularity. The Bolero is one of the most opted vehicles in its class. The car is hearty in appearance and it has been sophisticatedly designed, keeping in mind the conditions of the Indian roads. The Mahindra Bolero is also among the most fuel efficient cars of India. The car maker has equipped the big car with a 2500 cc diesel engine which is mated to 5-speed transmission.
Mahindra & Mahindra Limited brought out the Mahindra Scorpio in 2002. Ever since its debut, this car has been gracing the roads in India and is also perfect for the exciting off-road journeys. Its brawny looks, high performance and classy interior design accentuate the car's appearance.
The other big car from Mahindra's stables is the Mahindra Xylo, an MPV that has sizzled its way into Indian hearts. This is one car that Mahindra has completely built and designed on a new platform keeping in mind the requirements and desires of car buyers in India. Very recently, the BS IV norms came into effect in 13 Indian cities and the BS III emission norms were implemented in the remaining Indian cities. The Mahindra Xylo, available as both BS III and BS IV variants are - E4 (BS III), E6, E8, E8 ABS and D2 (BS III). All variants, except the D2 with a 95 bhp 2.5L mDI CRDe, are powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre m-Eagle engine that churns out 112 bhp.
