MS Outlook is used as an email application by many users across the world. It enables the users to read and send emails, manage contacts and meetings, etc. All such information is stored in a Personal Storage file known as a PST file. Normally, it works fine when its size is up to 2 GB. However, after that it starts getting corrupted. However, there are other reasons due to which the PST gets corrupt such as virus infections, power outages, abrupt system shutdown, human errors, etc. In such cases, you should take appropriate steps to rectify the situation. However, if you are not able to resolve the issue then you should use a third-party PST repair software to do the needful.

Consider a scenario wherein you have MS Outlook installed in your system. When you try to open an attachment, it fails to open. An error message is displayed, that is:

Your Anti-Virus software has blocked the file you were trying to open.

You should ensure your Anti-Virus software is fully up to date and try opening the file again. It is important to note that the blocked file may also ...
... contain a virus which your Anti-Virus software has not been able to remove. In this case you should treat the file with caution.

Cause:
For the aforementioned error message, there could be the following reasons:

1)There is a compatibility problem between your antivirus program and MS Office.
2)The antivirus is unable to remove the virus from the attachment.
3)The PST file has corrupted

Resolution:

To resolve this situation, following methods can be performed:

1)For the first two of the three causes, you should download the latest definition of the antivirus from the Internet. It should resolve the issue.
2)
3)If the PST file is corrupted, then you should use the Inbox Repair (Scanpst.exe) tool to repair the corrupted components.

However, if you still are not able to address the issue then you should use a third-party PST file recovery software to repair the corrupted PST file. Such read-only tools are able to perform safe recovery of the PST file using fast yet sophisticated scanning algorithms.
