Hidden Causes Of Water Damage Cleanup
Rains and burst pipes are common causes of problems in the home that require water damage cleanup. However, not all of the reasons for flooding are easily identified. There are some reasons that are not as obvious as the others.
One of the reasons why flooding occurs in the home is unmonitored or misused home appliances. For example, washers, dishwashers, and dryers can all cause water to be deposited in the home. When these items are used, they should be checked regularly to see if they are in good working condition. Proper maintenance and cleaning are also needed to be done. The failure to do so could cause these appliances to form a slow leak without the owner realizing it. However, should the machine completely manifest the leak, it can cause a disastrous flood in the property.
Another source of flooding in the home is through the fiberglass insulation used in the area. Some homes use fiberglass and other similar materials as extra insulation in their basements. While there would normally not cause any problems, the fiberglass can trap the moisture within the walls if a flood happens. As a result, the flooding ...
... can last longer than it normally would. Instead of using fiberglass, use other forms of insulation that are more tolerant of floods.
The gutters of the property need to be cleaned out to prevent water damage cleanup. If there are large amounts of rain or if there is a collection of debris that prevents the water from flowing properly, the water can spill over the gutters and cause the water to gather into the roof over the shingles. It can eventually leak down into the interiors of the home. Another scenario is that the water can pool around the sides of the house and splash against the foundation. In order to prevent this from happening, clean out the gutters at least twice a year.
Finally, the landscaping of the garden can affect the ability of the area to absorb water and prevent floods. For example, the addition of cement pavements prevents the soil from absorbing the water. Observe the lawn and garden after the first rainfall to see if it holds up properly. If it does not, call the landscapers back and ask them to make the necessary revisions.
