How To Cook Grass-fed Beef?
With the growing importance of maintaining health and fitness, and people shifting their eating habits to healthier food choices, grass-fed beef has become very popular. Many researches have revealed that the nutritional value of grass-fed beef is much higher and that rather than the content, the nutritional balance holds importance, and that balance has found to be present in grass-fed beef.
However, as people make the shift, one of the major challenges they face is cooking the meat so that the steaks are palatable and relishing. Grass-Fed Beef is leaner because the cattle move around the pastures which leads to more exercise. Moreover, the cattle are older when they are sent for slaughter, so the beef has less intramuscular fat and the muscles are firmer. These factors make it more challenging to cook grass-fed beef. So, the question is what is the right way? How can you make sure that you get the perfectly cooked, delicious, relishing, and juicy steaks prepared with grass-fed beef? How to cook grass-fed beef?
The best way is "low and slow" cooking. One thing you have to keep in mind when cooking grass-fed beef ...
... is that it must not be overcooked. Grass-fed beef tastes best when it is raw, thus the focus is on cooking it at low temperatures and slowly, so that the steak is warm and cooked from the inside while making sure that it has not been overcooked from the outside.
Many times, we focus on the color of the meat. People believe that the meat must be cooked until it is brown from the inside. This approach goes very wrong when you are cooking grass-fed beef. Here, you more need to focus on the temperature. The correctly cooked grass-fed meats are always juicy and limber. So, what you need to do is keep the temperature low, 120F or less, so that the meat is slowly cooked to give a palatable taste. Here is a nice approach. You can put your steaks while the grill is still cold that is you need to put the steaks before you turn on the heat in the grill and let the beef heat up slowly. As the grill is getting heated up, the steak will start getting cooked. You can turn the steak after five minutes. As you do that, the steak will look pretty much the same like when you first put it on the grill. That's because the grill was still heating up. You can turn the steak after another 5minutes, and when you do that, you will see that the steak is starting to get cooked.
One more thing that has to be taken care of when cooking grass-fed beef is that you don't dry it up of all its water. Many people believe that the steaks must be cooked until there is no blood running. Well, if you do that, you are having the perfect recipe of ruining a good cut of meat. Meat is 70% water and it's okay to have some red juice running out of it when you are cooking it. If you cook the meat excessively, you are just making beef jerky which is just dry meat, not very palatable. You do not want that, so do not overcook your steaks and leave them rare and raw.
The best way to cook grass-fed beef is to leave it raw and cook it low and slow. It does take time, but if you keep patience, you shall have the most tender and juiciest steaks in your hands. Happy Cooking and Eating!
