In an interview, Matthew McConaughey shared that he was hurt by his mother’s reaction to his growing popularity and fame.

McConaughey is an American producer and one of the brilliant actors in the industry. He gained popularity for his performance in the comedy movie titled, Dazed and Confused. Later he featured in The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Magic Mike, The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar, and many more. McConaughey received the prestigious Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as a cowboy in Dallas Buyers Club.

The actor lost his father in 1992 when he was stepping up the staircase of success. He shared that he missed his mother during that time, as she became a different person from her son’s fame.

In an interview with 5 Live’s Headliners podcast on BBC Radio, he shared that he needed her the most at that time. ... about his career. She started to love his fame more and wanted the same for herself in a certain way, which hurt McConaughey.

Matthew revealed that then he started limiting the conversations with his mother for several years. He used to give her a call on Sunday, but he could not talk his heart out as he did not want to provide her with any information or details about his professional life. He added if he shared anything with his mom, it would be published in the newspaper the next day. McConaughey tried to make her understand that it was for her and him. However, she did not understand it for a while.

The Oscar-winning actor revealed that he used to be startled when his private matters became public. As he investigated, he realized it was his mother behind the controversial leaks.

He remembered one incidence when his mom was giving a TV crew a tour of his childhood home. And when he asked her about this, she said, she did not think Matthew would find it out.

McConaughey described those years as tough ones. Still, he does not distance himself from his proud mom. Matthew understands that it was not wholly her fault, and he also should have made some boundaries. He concluded by saying that the mother-son relationship has come to the other side of it, and it is good now.
