Keycal Update And Why Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Are Important

It has been a busy couple of months at KeyCal, here is a recap of what we have been up to.
• We have been awarded our motor vehicle repair business license and motor vehicle repairers certificate for the Electrical Accessory Fitter (EAF) and Electrical Work (ELW) classes of work.
• Our Autel MaxiSys ADAS Calibration Tool has been expanded with additional targets to cover an even wider range of makes and models.
• New key cutting tools and coding capability.
• Graphics for the van have been designed and will be applied shortly.
• Lots of ADAS calibrations and diagnostics completed across a wide range of vehicles.
We are now seeing a lot of repeat work from workshops which is great to see.
Why are ADAS calibrations important
Statistics from the Australian National Government on road accidents and fatalities show that during the months of April and May this year, deaths in ages between 24 to 64 years increased by 11%.
Two thirds of road deaths occur in regional and remote areas, with one third occurring in a major city area. These proportions have not changed ...
... over the decade.
When you look at the ADAS features that are common with new vehicles you can see that most are designed to help reduce road accidents, and several them will directly help with the regional and remote area accidents.
• Adaptive cruise control
• Glare free high beam and pixel light
• Anti-lock braking system
• Automotive night vision
• Blind spot detection system
• Collision avoidance system
• Crosswind stabilization
• Intelligent speed adaptation
• Lane centering
• Lane departure warning system
• Lane change assistance system
• Surround view system
• Tyre pressure monitoring
Ensuring these systems are functioning and calibrated correctly becomes critical if these systems are to be effective, especially as people start to rely on these systems more and more.
Many vehicles used in remote areas, such as 4 wheel drives, have modifications made to them that require a re-calibration of ADAS systems. For example putting on bigger tyres or a suspension lift alters the ride height of the vehicle and the previous calibration values are now not correct for the vehicle.
There are already quite a few examples of vehicle crashes that have either been caused by incorrectly calibrated ADAS systems (vehicle slamming on brakes for a false positive), or scenarios where the ADAS system did not kick in because it was not calibrated after a modification.
Why Mobile ADAS Calibration Makes Sense
If you run a repair workshop, the last thing you want to do is have to take the vehicle to the Dealer when all your work is complete for them to do the ADAS calibration. Here are some obvious disadvantages:
• Time taken to drive the vehicle to and from the dealer
• Second resource lost to pick up and drop off the above resource
• No visibility of the work being undertaken by the dealer
• Safety factor – driving the uncalibrated vehicle to the dealer
• Time taken for dealer to complete the calibration
• Different dealer required for each vehicle manufacturer
This is where KeyCal Mobile ADAS calibration is a huge advantage for your workshop:
• KeyCal come to your workshop and calibrate the vehicle at your premises
• We can calibrate all makes and models
• You see the work being performed so you know that it is being done correctly
• Pre and post scan completed and report provided
• No loss of time/resources incurred by your workshop – plan ahead and organise the ADAS calibration with KeyCal for the time you require us to be at your workshop
