How To Frsky Receiver Antenna Replacement In The Worst-case Scenario

We'll learn more about how these antennas work, and when the time is right, we'll detail how to replace the frsky receiver antenna. Let's admit that we've all crashed and probably damaged our receiving antenna at some point in time. Not even tying your receiver properly can cause it to be cut between props - ouch! Just because you lose the antenna, you can't guarantee you have a new receiver, right? Of course not! Antennas are consumable and easy to replace, so here's how to series.
Structure of receiving antenna
Is a typical antenna on a receiver a wire? Well, not exactly. These monopole antennas are actually coaxial cables. This is the type of cable found on your satellite dish or on your local cable provider's TV connection.
The cable usually consists of four parts, two of which are insulated and the other two are signals.
The outermost shell is usually a black plastic sheath to protect the interior from physical pressure and damage (but we all know that these are easy to damage!)
The second layer is a layer of thin steel strands tightly ...
... wound together. The purpose of this layer is to provide protection against noise and interference of the signal and to prevent the signal from being transmitted to the actual antenna area - the part without ground wire.
The third layer is another small insulating layer. This is directly applied to the active component / mainline to prevent short circuit and ground fault.
Finally, the fourth layer is the actual wire, and the signal is transmitted from the device to which it is connected. This is the actual "antenna", also known as the active part, when the first three layers of shielding are removed.
Calculate and strip the correct antenna length
The active part of the antenna is determined by the wavelength of the radio signal to be transmitted. This is due to the correlation between wavelength and antenna length.
The resonant frequency of the antenna is the frequency at which the inductance and capacitance are offset and the receiving (or transmitting) is at the highest level. This is exactly a quarter of the total wavelength of the signal being transmitted.
For a normal 2.4GHz receiver, the length is 31.23mm. Why?
The calculation formula of antenna length is given
Length = C (speed of light) / (frequency * 4)
If you strip away the active components of your antenna (the transparent part of the black plastic shield that does not exist), the easiest way to recover and reuse the antenna is to strip off part of the shield and expose the active element of 31.23mm.
To do this, carefully follow the steps given below.
Make a clean cut where the antenna is stripped.
Measure 31.23mm from that end and strip the insulation until you leave the active component behind.
Replace antenna?
If you lose the entire antenna and need to replace it, you can order a replacement frsky antenna from horusrc. In most cases, replacing the antenna is as easy as XM / XM + or rxsr by simply removing it from the receiver and installing a new antenna. When replacing the frsky receiver antenna, make sure that it is properly grounded, as electrostatic discharge from the body can damage the ESD sensitive RF chip on the receiver.
Remember to buy the correct antenna for your receiver, as some receivers have different connector and active component lengths (why? Read on!)
Some receivers have shorter (or longer antennas)?
The quarter wavelength of 2.4GHz is 31.23mm. Why do some receivers have different antenna lengths? For example, we measured several different frsky RX antennas as follows:
R-xsr - 23.5 mm
X4r-sb - 33.25 mm
XSr - 26 mm
XM + - 23mm
This is because frsky is adjusting their antenna in their receiver itself.
As I mentioned earlier, the length of the active element depends on the inductance and capacitance. If we can change the values of both, theoretically, we can have active components of any length. We like it! This may be why the antenna length of some receivers exceeds 31 millimetres.
So if you try to peel off the antenna, it's always better to keep the antenna's original length as your receiver comes, because not all optimized fixed wavelengths.
It is also crucial to keep your active element straight when you install it.
conclusion
In this article, we discuss the antenna, its length and how to replace the receiving antenna in the worst case. Hopefully, in most cases, you can resort to peeling off the antenna a little bit to expose the active components and save money.
