Ways To Compact And Repair An Access Database

Corruption in any form is inevitable and there is no respite from them to our valuable files and data. MS Access database file too gets corrupt and we are supposed to repair Microsoft Access file using inbuilt utility known as ‘Compact and Repair' or we can take help of third party software if it doesn't works out.
There are various ways to compact and repair MS Access .MDB database. You can compact and repair .MDB files either manually or automatically. The choice is up to you only. We'll discuss each method elaborately.
Let's start with automatic way.
Automatically compact and repair a database when it closes
You can select the Compact on Close database option if you want to automatically compact and repair a database when it closes. Setting this option affects only the database that is currently open. You must set this option separately for each database that you want to automatically compact and repair.
1.Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Access Options.
2.In the Access Options dialog box, click Current Database.
3.Under Application Options, select the Compact ...
... on Close check box.
Manually compact and repair a database
In addition to or instead of using the Compact on Close database option, you can manually run the Compact and Repair command. You can run the command when you have a database open, and you can run the command on a database that is not open. You can also create a desktop shortcut that runs the Compact and Repair command on a particular database file.
Compact and repair a database that you have open
If other users are also currently using the database file, you cannot perform a compact and repair operation.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Manage, and then, under Manage this database, click Compact and Repair Database.
Compact and repair a database that is not open
If other users are currently using the database file, you cannot perform a compact and repair operation. While you run the compact and repair operation, no one can use the database file.
Start Access, but do not open a database.
Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Manage, and then, under Manage this database, click Compact and Repair Database.
In the Database to Compact From dialog box, navigate to and double-click the database that you want to compact and repair.
If all the above method fails to Repair Microsoft Access database, use third party Access recovery software, which rebuilds and repairs MS Access database files recovering fields like auto number, hyperlink, Yes/No and OLE object field in tables. This advanced repair Microsoft Access database software repairs and fixes corrupt .mdb files that cannot be opened due to corruption.
