Disney Plus Released The “wandavision” Trailer During Emmy Awards
Disney offered first-ever deducible footage of its upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoff TV series WandaVision during Sunday night premiere of 72nd Emmy Awards.
Disney+ is gearing up for back to back releases of MCU spinoffs which will presumably start with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany starrer WandaVision, the trailer of which has already been unveiled during Sunday night premiere of Primetime Emmy Awards hosted by famed presenter Jimmy Kimmel.
Although this is not the first footage we have seen from the upcoming show (Disney+ gave glimpses of the series during its ad which had run in Super Bowl in the month of February), but it is the first solid teaser, we have seen from any of the highly anticipated spinoffs.
If you have seen the trailer, you would know that nothing much can be conclusively drawn from it, but there are some footages which have been used by online enthusiasts to deduce meanings.
There are many unanswered questions in the trailer though, one of which is the existence of Vision itself. The trailer does have a dialogue which explains that the AI phenom did indeed die in Infinity ...
... War but then how is he still walking on the ground, talking to others? The second question is, how are Wanda and Vision together? And where are they? Have they time travelled?
Disney+ have hinted at the possibility that the series will be coming of age sitcom with inspirations from the classical apogees. The trailer which came during the Emmy Awards presentation gave us some footage of the couple’s dubiety with the reality they are living in as they realize that everything is not what it seems.
What remains to be seen is Marvel’s plan with the show and the inclusion of it in the broader scheme of things which revolves around the duo’s involvement in big-screen Phase 4 plans of Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Another thing which is shrouded in mystery is the series’ release date which has been a matter of serious debate in the last couple of months as the coronavirus pandemic has posed some serious questions to everyone involved in the production. If everything had gone according to the plan, then we would have already seen “Falcon and Winter Soldier” in August and would have been hyping “WandaVision” by now as it was to be released in December of 2020.
The pandemic, subsequent delay of Hollywood movies, and production obstructions have thrown that release date up in the air.
Now, it is looking more likely that both Falcon and Winter Soldier and WandaVision will release in 2021. The order and the release dates cannot be confirmed yet.
Two more series which are expected to come sometime next year are Hawkeye and Loki based on the characters built by Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tom Hiddleston and Jeremy Renner will reprise their roles and possibly continue on their story arcs; the same can be said about Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).
As far as WandaVision is concerned, the series is helmed by Matt Shakman based on a script penned by a team which was headed by Jac Schaeffer who is also an executive producer alongside Marvel Studio CEO Kevin Feige. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are supported by an ensemble of Teyonah Parris, Kat Dennings, Randall Park, and Kathryn Hahn. Dennings appeared in Thor movies impersonating the character Darcy Lewis, a friend of Natalie Portman’s character Jane Foster while Randall Park was seen in the Paul Rudd starrer Ant and the Wasp.
There have been some recent pre-production developments in other Marvel-Disney partnership projects, the headline of which was captured by Tatiana Maslany who has signed up to star in the She-Hulk adaptation. Other confirmed future Marvel projects are “Moon Knight,” “Ms Marvel,” and an animated series called “What If…”
Another round of speculation has dropped some spotlight on Netflix Marvel characters such as Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, the future projects of which were mercilessly cancelled by Netflix. Fans had started talking about the possible return of the characters on Disney+ that may very well be a possibility once Netflix loses the ownership of the character, which is expected to happen soon.
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher had garnered a very strong fanbase during their time on Netflix, the craze of which is not expected to burn out any time soon.
