What Is Data Breach Alert And How To Get Them From Mozilla’s Firefox Monitor?
Privacy and security have become the primary goal of every browser to keep up with the user’s safety. Thus, one browser that has devotedly worked upon security is Mozilla Firefox. While privacy-based services are offered with a subscription by Mozilla, there are a lot of security tools merged with the browser for free.
Firefox offers an in-built security tool named Firefox Monitor, which is a data breach monitoring service. It is a service that cooperates with ‘Have I Been Pwned’ to observe if your online data is being exposed to an online data breach.
The Firefox Monitor prompts you to enter your email address and checks a library of data breaches to let you know if you’re affected or not. Not only this but if you sign-up for receiving data breach alerts, you’ll receive the updates regularly. Fortunately, you do not require the Firefox browser to take advantage of the Firefox Monitor.
How to Use Firefox Monitor?
Using Firefox Monitor is a simple process to follow, and the steps to use the same are:
1. Go to the Firefox Monitor website using any browser.
2. You’ll be asked ...
... to enter your email address to check the breaches. Go ahead and enter the same in the given space.
Note: You can add any email address.
3. Once you’ve entered the email, tap on the ‘Check for Breaches’ button.
4. You’ll be headed to a window that’ll show the results on how many data breaches have taken place with the given email address.
5. Click on the ‘Alert me about new breaches’ option on the result page.
6. Next, you’ll be prompted to sign in with a Firefox account. Again, you don’t need to use Firefox to make a Firefox account.
7. Follow the on-screen instructions to sign up for a Firefox account.
8. Once you’ve signed in, a Breach Summary page will open. The page will alert you about the data breaches your account is associated with. Also, it’ll confirm email addresses actively being observed for any further data breaches.
Interestingly, you’ll be sent alerts regarding data breach for the email address you choose to monitor. Thus, it shall keep you updated.
One essential thing to note here is that sometimes detecting data breaches can take time. Therefore, it can cause a lapse of time between the actual data breach and the time you get notified.
How to Unsubscribe From Firefox Monitor?
In case you decide that you don’t want any further alerts from Firefox monitor, unsubscribing the same is a simple method to follow. Thus, the steps to do the same are:
1. Go to the Firefox Monitor website using any browser.
2. Enter the details of your Firefox account and sign in.
3. Tap on your profile icon on the top-right corner of the window.
4. A drop-down menu will open. Select the ‘Preferences’ option to head to the Firefox Monitor settings window.
5. Scroll to the bottom of the next page and click on the ‘Remove Firefox Monitor’ option unsubscribe from further alerts or emails.
6. A pop-up window will open for your confirmation. Confirm the same, and you’ll be taken back to the Firefox Monitor home page.
That was easy, isn’t it? Though you’ve unsubscribed from Firefox Monitor, your account will remain active, and you can sign back in anytime you want.
Mozilla’s Firefox Monitor is a convenient option to check for your data breach via email address. Therefore, if you don’t want to opt for its subscribed services, you can always check for the free tools it has got to offer.
