August 7, 1905, is the day when the Swadeshi Movement or Make in India campaign was officially launched, in a bid to boycott the usage of British and all foreign goods, as India’s answer to the Partition of Bengal. This same day was chosen to be National Handloom Day on 7th August 2015, by the Modi Government, in a bid to commemorate the Handloom and Handicrafts Industry in India, in the shadow of the Make in India movement. And, on the same day, in a bid to empower and self-sustain the handloom and handicrafts sector in India, the same Modi Government took this startling move, envisioning a Minimum Government and Maximum Governance idea. Along with the Handloom board, the Handicrafts board and Powerloom board are also abolished the same day.

This would mean that there will be no Government body, to host the Handloom, Handicraft and Powerloom sectors to the Government, and the craftsmen will directly address their concerns to the Government, without any medium of connection, operating just like any other independent industry.

Jute Shopping Bag Manufacturers Go Vocal for Handloom
The Indian Handloom ...
... is much more prominent now in mainstream fashion and lifestyle industry, when celebrities, leaders as well as the brigadiers of Sustainable Industries loud its favour.
Jute is a vital resource for this spectrum. From Vegan Jute Silk to Hemp Furniture, to reusable jute bags.

India is among the largest Jute producers in the world, alongside Bangladesh and China, and with the burgeoning culture about Jute Bags nowadays, there is a great demand for exports.

So perhaps, it is a practical and functional concept for jute bags industry, that is intrinsically rooted in India’s socio-economic development.

While many existing members of the board expressed disappointment on the abolition of the board, worrying that this direct approach to the government is hardly realistic.

The All India Handloom Board was constituted in 1992 on the Indian Republic Day, 26th January, upgrading from the Indian Handicrafts Board which was founded 68 years ago, dating back to 1952, originally founded by Pupul Jayakar, and Kamaladevi Chatterjee.

The aim of this board was to deliver advisory to the Indian Government about the welfare of the weavers and craftsmen. The Government abolished this board on the basis that it is not yielding the best interests of the craftsmen. Now the system is going to operate via the NIFT - also founded by Pupul Jayakar, and up-gradation of several weavers centres are in the line.

Many officials argued on the matter, that even though the AIHB was founded with the vision to have a Government advisory board to speak on behalf of the craftsmen, there has not been much activity lately. With this new move, the Indian Government have heavily campaigned the #Vocal4Handloom hashtag indicating a prospective new beginning for the industry, in the wake of National Handloom Day.

How Jute Bags Suppliers Take Indian Handloom To The Next Level

This is a model. While still at a nascent level, Jute and Cotton shopping bags act as mascots for the handloom and handicrafts welfare.
Now, this is not just about the fact that using an eco-friendly material would get you there. But the entire lifecycle, of creating the products that come into consideration. And this warps in handicraft, handloom, as well as power loom, wherein the bags and other accessories don’t have to be made entirely by hand, but also includes machine-usage with extensive manual work. Moreover, the factors like eco-friendly manufacturing process, use of eco-friendly dyes, fair trade, maintenance of corporate and social responsibility.

Thus, with heavy involvement of the public and the Sustainability brigadiers making a move to empower the artisans, as well as the cultural heritage of India, are most likely make this a success and not a mistake. Only time will tell.
