The Assistant

The movie revolves around a young woman who works at a Hollywood executive in New York for five weeks, doing menial tasks as a junior assistant. The film is about the incident that takes place on a single day when she was returning home from work after sunset. The film explores cases of harassment at the workplace and also throws light on the Harvey Weinstein case.
Bacurau

Bad Education

Starring: Hugh Jackman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Allison Janney
Bad Education is an American comedy-drama film that is based on the true story of the largest public school embezzlement in American History.
The film made its world premiere on 8th September at the Toronto International Film Festival and was later broadcast on HBO. The film also received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Television Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor.
Beanpole
Released on: 19th January

Starring: Vasilisa Perelygina, Viktoria Miroshnichenko
Beanpole is a Russian historical drama film that begins in Leningrad, shortly after the second world war ended. The film is about a story of two women, Iya Sergueeva and Masha. Iya Sergueeva is nicknamed “Beanpole” and she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and the film begins with her freezing while working as a nurse at a hospital. She has been caring for her son, Prashka whom she accidentally smothers to death while playing with him as she suffers an episode of PTSD.
The film was selected as Russia’s entry for 92nd Academy Award’s nomination for Best International Feature film.
Birds of Prey
Released on: 7th February
Directed By: Cathy Yan
Starring: Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco, Jurnee Smollett-Bell
Birds of Prey is based on a DC comics team which is the eighth installment of DC Extended Universe and a follow up to Suicide Squad. The world premiere of the film happened in Mexico and was theatrically released in the US.
The film was praised for its visual style, direction and Margot Robbie’s performance.
Blow The Man Down
Released on: 20th March
Directed By: Danielle Krudy and Bridget Savage Cole
Starring: Sophie Lowe, Margo Martindale, Morgan Saylor, June Squibb
It is an American black comedy thriller film which starts with a man chasing a young woman while enid had been watching through the window and on the other side sisters Priscilla and Mary Beth are at their mother’s funeral.
Blow The Man Down intensifies as it proceeds and new revelations come through the way making it a gripping watch.
The film had its world premiere at the Tribeca International Festival and was later released by Amazon Studios.
Emma

Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Nighy, Johnny Flynn, Mia Goth
Emma is a British comedy-drama film that revolves around Emma Woodhouse, who has been interfering in her friends’ romantic relationships after her governess Miss Taylor gets married. The story is compelling and resonates with people even now though based in Regency Era England.

This American psychological drama film defies the expectations that its title set out. The story is about a shy, introverted young woman, who lives a quiet life and visits her mother’s grave and the horse stable in her free time.
