Ways To Clean That Tarnish Off Your Silver Jewellery

The black coating over your jewellery is called tarnish. It can happen due to a reaction between silver and sulphur in the air.
Not only that! Your jewellery can tarnish if it’s touched by cosmetics, creams, oil or even perfume.

Laundry Detergent + Aluminium Foil
Laundry detergent and aluminium foil are very easily available household products.
Here’s how to clean your silver jewelry with these products.
All you need is:
Laundry Detergent (Powdered)
Aluminium Foil
A Small Bowl
Hot Water
Just put some strips of foil in a bowl and pour hot water over it.
Then, add 1 tbsp laundry detergent to the bowl and mix it well. Let your silver jewellery sit in the bowl for a minute then rinse it off.
Air-dry your jewellery and it’ll be as good as new.
Lemon Juice + Soda

... that is not too tarnished, then this hack is for you.
All you need is:
Lemon Juice
Soda
Bowl
Pour 2 tbsp lemon juice and a glass of soda in a bowl and let your jewellery soak in it for an hour.
Rinse it off properly and dry it with a clean cloth.
Now, fall in love with the shine of your jewellery again!
Dish Soap
Dish soap doesn’t only shine your dishes but your jewellery too. It’s cleaning properties make it terrific to clean your ornaments.
Here’s how to clean your silver jewellery with dish soap.
All you need is:
Dish Soap
Warm Water
A Bowl
Old Toothbrush
Clean Cloth
Pour 2 tbsp dish soap and some warm water in a bowl.
Soak your jewellery in the bowl for 5 minutes or so and then, take it out of the water and gently scrub it with a toothbrush.
Rinse it off with some warm water and dry them with a clean cloth.
Avoid scrubbing too much if the ornament is embellished with stones and pearls.
Baking Soda + Vinegar
Baking soda and vinegar can do wonders for your jewellery. It can remove the tarnish from an ornament that hasn’t been cleaned for years.
All you need is:
White Vinegar
Baking Soda
Water
A Bowl
Take a bowl and pour half a cup of vinegar and 1 tbsp baking soda in it. Make sure you don’t use too much baking soda.
Soak your jewellery for 2 hours or so and rinse it off with water.
Dry your jewellery off with a clean cloth and it would come back to its mint condition.
Alcohol (Beer or Vodka)
Alcohol doesn’t only drive your pain away but also keep that silver bling as good as new.
But how to clean silver jewellery with alcohol?
Well, First avoid getting alcohol on any gemstone other than diamond or emerald.
Now, all you need is:
A bowl
Beer/ Vodka
Clean Clothes
Water
Soak your jewellery in the alcohol poured in a bowl.
Take a cloth and gently rub the surface of your jewellery then rinse it off with water.
Then take another dry cloth and you are good to go!
Ketchup
We know it might sound crazy but it does work!
All you need is:
Ketchup
Old Toothbrush
Water
Clean Cloth
Just pour some ketchup on your jewellery. If the jewellery is detailed, gently brush the surface with an old toothbrush.
Leave it for a few minutes then rinse it clean with water.
Dry it off with a clean cloth and its ready to be worn again!
