Mining Applications Of Stone Crushers

Stone crushers are an important part of the mining process. Their basic function is to take large chunky pieces of mined rock and reduce their size so they can be more easily transported or processed. There are various types and categories of stone crushers and each has a specific purpose and application in the mining process. Here's a brief overview of some of the mining applications of stone crushers.
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Stone Crushers
Depending on the type of mine and rock that needs to be processed, there may be one stone crusher or as many as five crushers involved in the processing of the rock. By definition, the primary crusher is the first machine to receive the rock. Generally, the mined ore is bulky and not uniform in size and shape. The primary crusher therefore has to have the largest capacity and the strongest crushing power. Most often, the primary crusher is fed by dump trucks or trailers that release the mined ore in batches onto a feeder belt. In general, the crusher is fed from the top so that gravity helps move the rocks into the crusher. A primary crusher may be a jaw crusher, cone ...
... crusher or gyratory crusher. The type of crusher will depend on the type of rock being mined. It will also depend on the different properties of the rock. These include aspects such as the density of the rock, the moisture content, how abrasive the rock is, and how hard it is.
Depending on the output requirements of the mine, the rock may be processed further through a secondary and tertiary crusher. If it is coal ore, for example, it may also be washed and sorted in the process. Often there is dust, splinters and byproducts that are produced as a result of the crushing process. In order to reduce waste material, these byproducts may be recycled through a secondary or tertiary crusher. Sometimes, more end product can be extracted in this way and often the amount of waste product can be greatly reduced at the same time.
Types of Stone Crushers Used in Mining
We've already talked about the format of stone crushers in the mining process in terms of being a primary, secondary or tertiary crusher. We've mentioned jaw crushers, cone crushers and gyratory crushers as examples of primary crushers. But depending on the mining application, these crushers may also operate as secondary or tertiary crushers. Alternatively, a jaw crusher may be the primary crusher and a cone crusher the secondary crusher. Impact or hammer crushers are two other types of crushers that generally are used as secondary or tertiary crushers. The principle is usually the same. The purpose of stone crushers is to reduce the size of the rock that is mined so that it is easier to transport and process. Engineers may calculate the output requirements or potential of a mine. They will then look at what type of crusher can deliver the desired output and the length of the process required. The application of the crusher and the type of crusher used will depend on its capacity, strength, and processing mechanisms. While there are only a few types of crushers, the designs are often adapted and customized for a specific output requirement.
Modern Innovations and Applications for Stone Crushers
In recent decades, mining companies have looked for more efficient ways of processing materials. Stone crushers are an integral part of the mining process but often the cost and time taken to set up a stationary crushing plant can strain a company's resources. For this reason, many companies sought ways of starting and building up production so that the mine could be up and running in a shorter space of time. In other words, while the stationary plant is being built, the mine is being prospected and ore is already being processed. The way this has been accomplished is by using mobile crushing units. These are made up of your standard jaw, cone or impact crushers combined with a feeder and screening tray. They are either mounted on trailers with wheels which can turned into semi-permanent structures or run on tracks similar to military tanks. The mobile crushers that run on tracks are commonly called crawlers. These machines have the ability to traverse across uneven and rough terrain, can operate underground and can even ascend up or down relatively steep inclines. This has made them ideal for mining prospecting.
